DEATHS
MRS. KATHERYN BROOKS
Mrs. Katheryn Mae Brooks, 62, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday on
Ottumwa, route 3, after a long illness.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. William Robertson and Mrs.
George Richards of Ottumwa and Miss Gladys Brooks of Chicago,
Ill.; two sons, E. B. of Corydon, and H. L., of Alliance, Neb.,
and three grandsons.
The funeral will be held at the Lester Jay funeral home Friday at
10 a.m. Burial will be made in the Fiedler cemetery.
JAMES W. RAMSEY
James W. Ramsey, 52, of 217 North Hancock street, died
at 5 a.m. today.
He was the son of Jesse and Abigail Ramsey and was born in
Kellerton, August 7, 1883. He had lived in Ottumwa for the last
thirteen years and was a plumber.
Surviving are his wife, Lena; and adopted daughter Betty, at
home; his mother, Mrs. Abigail Ramsey Curry, of Ottumwa; one
sister, Mrs. C. D. Caldwell, of Milan, Mo; one brother, W. D.
Ramsey of Ottumwa; one half-sister, Mrs. Glen Stoher of Ottumwa;
and three half-brothers, Bert Curry of Kellerton, and Roy and
Clifford of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his father, two
brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Johnsons
funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. V. R. Willey. Burial will
be made in Memorial Lawn cemetery.
MRS. AMY RANDOLPH
Mrs.. Amy Randolph, 45, wife of Alva Randolph, of 1018
Plum street died Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. at the home after a long
illness.
She was the daughter of William and Mary Ann Martin and was born
in Davis county, May 20, 1891. She had lived in Ottumwa for the
last twenty years. She was a member of the Wesley Methodist
Episcopal church.
Surviving are her husband, Alva, two daughters, Mrs. Walter Yoder
of Ottumwa and Velma Randolph at home; one son, Gilbert, of
Ottumwa; her mother Mrs. Mary Ann Martin of Bloomfield; two
sisters, Mrs. Alta Stockham of Davis county, and Mrs. Ada Hardman
of Memphis, Mo.; six brothers, Willie, Claude and Lowell Martin
of Davis county, Spice of Ottumwa, Dolph of Marlin, Kan., and
Irvin of Los Angeles, Calif., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Johnsons
funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. R. W. Swick. Burial will be
made in Memorial Lawn cemetery.
The body will be taken to the home Thursday noon and returned to
the chapel Friday noon.
HEDRICK WOMAN DIES IN OTTUMWA
Mrs. Anna Vaughan, Well Known Here, Succumbs Of
Intestinal Ailment; Recently Injured.
Mrs. Anna Gullett Vaughn, 64, wife of William A. Vaughn, who
broke her collar bone in a fall down the stairway at her home in
Hedrick about three weeks ago, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the St..
Joseph hospital here.
She was suffering from an intestinal ailment.
She was taken to the St.. Joseph hospital at Ottumwa Tuesday noon
for an operation.
She leaves her husband, William A. Vaughn, former president and
director of the old Hedrick State Bank.
She also leaves four brothers, C. F. Gullett and W. J., both of
Lincoln, Ill., W. F., of Los Angeles, Calif., and Eugene R.
Gullett of East Moline, Ill., and a sister, Miss Ida B. Gullett
of Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on the lawn
at the Vaughn home on East Second street in Hedrick, conducted by
the Rev. J. B. Hockersmith, pastor of the Hedrick Christian
church.
The body will be taken to Lincoln, Ill., for burial Friday
morning.
Mrs. Vaughn was a member of the Hedrick Garden Club and the
Ottumwa Book Club. Her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C.
E. Gullett, arrived from Lincoln, Tuesday night. Mrs. Mary Lowe,
sister of Mrs. Vaughn, also arrived here from New Jersey. Mrs.
Vaughn was a charter member of the Ottumwa Book club and
historian of the organization since its founding.
