MRS. ZANGS PASSES AWAY
RESIDENT OF OTTUMWA FOR 59 YEARS: NATIVE OF THE NETHERLANDS

Mrs. Pauline Auwerda Zangs, widow of H.A. Zangs died at the family home 124 WestFifth Street, at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
She had been in failing health for the past 10 years and confined to her bed fora number of weeks. Her funeral service will be held at 9 o'clock in St. Mary's churchand burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery.
Her children, sisters and grand children survive. Mr. Zangs died January 17, 1921.The sons and daughters are: Mrs. Henrietta Farrell of Chicago; Mrs. Charles Searleof Ottumwa, Miss Rena Zangs and Christian Zangs of Ottumwa and Leo J. Zangs of Clinton.The grand children are: Mrs. Ray Baer of Madison Wisconsin; D.A. Farrell and MaryKatherine Farrell of Chicago, Leo Zangs, Jr. of Clinton and George Benjamin Searleof Ottumwa. The sisters are: Mrs Kate Maschek of Chicago; and Mrs. Ida Lange andMrs. Mary Cheadle, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Mrs. Maschek was to arrive late thisafternoon, Mrs. Farrell and the Mr. Zangs from Clinton coming this morning.

BORN JANUARY 8, 1845
Pauline Auwerda was born January 8, 1845 in Nymiegen, Holland and was the eldestdaughter of Christian and Josina Auwerda.
She had the unique distinction of having crossed the Atlantic Ocean five times infourteen year sand at a time when ninety days were consumed in making the trip. Thetime the journey was made either Ottumwa or her birthplace in Holland were her destination. The first trip was in 1847, when her parents and a number of Hollanders came toIowa. They returned to Holland in 1849 and came back six months later. Another tripwas made in 1851 but in 1863 Mr. and Mrs. Auwerda and their family came back to Ottumwa,this city being the permanent home of Mrs. Zangs since.

MARRIED IN ST. MARY'S
She was married to Henry Albert Zangs, a native of Prussia in St. Mary's churchhere November 5, 1866 by Rev. father John Kreckie, pioneer priest of Ottumwa. OnNovember 5, 1916 they observed their golden wedding.
