THRESHERS ENJOY OUTING IN WOODS
ELM GROVE CREW HOLD ANNUAL PICNIC NEAR BATAVIA;
MANY ARE PRESENT.
The annual outing and picnic of the Elm Grove Threshers crew and their families was held last Saturday in the beautiful grove of stately old elms on the L. R. Creamer farm, adjoining the home of John Strand, about four miles west of Batavia.
The farmers representing this threshing crew are the men who are with the big machine of Chas. Morrison each season, and have formed themselves into an Association for mutual assistance in their farm and crop work, and in the enjoyment of an annual social gathering in the woods.
About a hundred and thirty were present at Saturday’s outing, and all thoroughly enjoyed the splendid dinner and the games and frolics among the trees. A ball game scheduled for the afternoon was abandoned on account of rain and the pleasures of the day cut short and marred from same cause, but nevertheless it was a happy and good natured crowed of people gathered together for a day of recreation.
A representative of The Courier chanced to pass that way and was taken into the festivities, treated royally and entered heartily into the welcome that was extended to him and enjoyed the occasion thoroughly.
The families represented at the meeting were as follows:
Frank Acton, J. J. Acton, L. R. Creamer, John Stroud, Harry Davis, W. H. Wilhite, Perry Heady, Mrs. Geo. Morrison, David Heady, True Arbogast, Elmer Lawson, Chas. Morrison, J. E. Carter, Ed Rains, Chas. Webb, W. E. Rill and Ed Sturgiss.
