Crushed by Cage
GEORGE ROBERTS OF HITEMAN, SEVERLY INJURED WHILE AT WORK IN MINE.
With his breast badly crushed, his right wrist broken, and a
slight scalp wound, George Roberts, of Hiteman, lies at the
Ottumwa Hospital. Roberts who is a cager in Hiteman's mine No. 3
while atttemping to stop a pit car from going into a sump of the
mine was caught by the decending cage and pinned to the earth,
yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock. The cage weighed nearly
3,000 pounds and before being dicovered, Roberts lay under it for
fully two mintues, before assitance arrived. The injured man was
brought to this city last evening on Burlington No. 4 and taken
to the hospital in the ambulance. Dr. S. A. Spilman attended Mr.
Roberts. He was accompanied here by his wife and two little
children. Late this afternoon his condition was reported much
improved.

JOHN DABISH IS KILLED BY FALL OF ROCK IN MYSTIC MINE.
Mystic, Aug 24, John Dabish, and Austrian miner employed at the
mine of Orr bros. ,was killed almost instantly yesterday, by a
fall of rock. Although his body was crushed he was alive when
taken from under the mass of stone, but before he could be taken
to the top of the shaft he was dead. Dabish is survived by his
wife .The remains were interred at the Orrville, near the mines,
today.
