SHORT STOPS.
Deputy Sheriff Williams will arrive from Peoria Tuesday night with Wood, the escaped prisoner.

Yesterday Judge E. L. Burton sold to Walter B. Wilson three acres of land on Keith avenue for $1,700.

James G. Hobbs and Miss Cora Jane Portzions, both of this city, were united in marriage last night at 5 o’clock, at the office of the officiating justice, Dr. W. L. Orr.

M. C. Leistey, who claimed to hair from the soldier’s home, was arraigned before the mayor yesterday morning for drunkenness.  He was given his liberty, providing he would leave the city, and he left.

Mrs. Caroline Davis was arrested yesterday by Constable King, and her two sons, Russell and Simon, were placed under arrest by Constable McKaig.  It appears that they were connected with the recent free-for-all fight at the Phillips coal mines.  They will have a hearing Monday.

The case of the state vs. David Brown, of Keokuk township, was called before Justice Bickley yesterday.  Brown is charged with threatening to commit a public offense, it being alleged that he threatened to kill or do great bodily injury to one John T. Rupe.  Seventeen witnesses will be examined, and the case will probably last all day tomorrow.  W. W. Cory appeared as attorney for the state, and Judge Williams for the defendant.
