A Good Supper For A Good Cause
At the City Hall, Friday evening Nov. 10th 1882 commencing at
at 6:30 o'clock, will be given a good supper. All soldiers and
good people generally, who feel charitably inclined toward Mrs.
J.B. ALSUP, will please send their donations to the hall. Send
in your provisions and then come and help eat it. Professor
RHEEM will furnish the audience. The proceeds of this effort
will benefit Mrs. ALSUP. Given under the auspices of the G.A.R.
The Beedle and Prindle Pleasure Party came into the city
yesterday,
an almost unknown combination, but during the forenoon they came
out with theirband and attracted much attention by their
excellent
appearance and exceptionally good music. Johnny PRINDLE was
a whole troupe in one person, and the HENNESSYS were excellent.
The election of Judge BURTON is a matter of general
contratulations.
We have not the figures for the district but from all directions
he has great gains over his party ticket everywhere. He carries
his
own town and township by 236 majority.
Tomorrow we shall be able to give the full vote of the county,
but last night it was impossible to get full returns from Adams
or Keokuk Township.

Personal
L. LEVY came in last night from Colorado.
Thomas NORTON left yesterday evening for Chicago.
John L. MOORE left yesterday evening for Chicago.
Leroy HENDERSHOTT after an absence of several monthis is in the
city again.
Henry C. ETHEL formerly editor of this paper, but at present in
Indianola, called last night. Henry rejoiced with the other boys
and was glad of the good news as any man in the city.
Jacob FREE, of Eddyville, was a visitor in the city. Jake is a
staunch democrat
George MIDDLETON and John SIMMONS, the (boss) snapshots, went out
yesterday and brought in 36 quails. George and John follow the
boss pair of dogs, and if there is any one in this town that can
get more birds than they can, we would like to see them do it,
and
show the birds here.
We understand that there has been some petty thieving going on in
the west end of town, of late, and of somebody doesn't look a
"leedle out" he will get into trouble. A few nights ago
MRS.WALLACE'S
cellar was broken into and the contents generally stolen.
Obituary
Miss Kate FOLEY, age about 24 years, died at the home of her
parents
in this city, at 1 o'clock,a. m., yesterday of consumption.
Miss Katie was a young lady of a most lovable disposition, warn-
heart, and with a disposition as bright as a sunbeam. She will
be remembered for many a long day by hundreds of people who will
first learn of her death this morning. Her numerous acquaintances
will drop a tear of regret to the memory of Kate FOLEY.
The funeral will take place to-day at the Catholic Church.
