Granville Men in Service.

Sgt. Vincent Ahlers is spending this week at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ahlers, enroute from Atlanta, Ga. to the west coast.

Pvt. Roland Thill visited friends here Wednesday. He spent his furlough at the home of his parents near Remsen.

S. K. 2/c Donald Neuroth departed for Great Lakes after spending a 15-day leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Neuroth.

Orville O’Connor, instructor in gunnery at Albuquerque, N. M., arrived Thursday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. J. O’Connor and sister Rita.

Sgt. Kenneth Graff spent several days visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs. Bruce Vosburg. He arrived last week from England on the SS Queen Mary.

Pfc. Magnus Goebel, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Goebel was expected to arrive on the first part of this week on the east coast on the Queen Mary.

Rock Valley Service Men
Andy VanBoeyen arrived home Monday bearing an honorable discharge from the Army. He had 86 points. Andy went into the service on October 1, 1941, and trained at Camp Roberts, Calif., and Fort Lewis, Wash. He left March 19, 1942, for the Pacific and served in Australia and New Guinea as cook and truck driver. He came back to the United States on rotation furlough November 20, 1944, after which he reported at Hot Springs, Ark. and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood before being discharged.

S2/c Arthur Kooima is spending a nine day leave here with his wife and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Kooima. He has completed his boot training.

Second Lt. John Oldenkamp is spending a fifteen day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Oldenkamp. He is expected to go overseas but is now stationed at Sheppard Field, Texas. Upon completion of his furlough, he expects to go to Wichita Falls.

S1/c Alfred Van Hattem is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Van Hattem. He just returned from overseas duty.

Pfc. Marvin De Witt arrived here Monday and is spending a ten day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Evert De Witt. He is stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

Shipfitter 2/c Richard Van Zee is now stationed at Treasure Island, Calif.

Henry Ver Muelen arrived home Sunday from Percy Jones hospital at Battle Creek, Mich., where he has spent the past 8 weeks. He has received a medical discharge from the Army. He has been in service since March 1944, and overseas 8 months. He lost several toes off one foot which causes Henry (Pink) to limp as he walks.

Cpl. Henry Ver Doorn left Friday afternoon after spending a 30-day furlough here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ver Doorn, who are visiting at the Wm. Schouten home.

LEAVES FOR FT. BRAGG

T/5 Arnold Te Stroete, who returned from overseas Aug. 2, after service with the 7th Army, left last week for Jefferson Barracks where he was assigned to Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Enroute Overseas.
Pvt. J. T. Even is now enroute to the Far East with Inf. Co. A 4th Plat. APO No. 31268 c/o P.M. San Francisco, Calif.

Saw “Betties” Land
S/Sgt. Edward Keizer was stationed on Ie Shima (near Okinawa) when the two white and green “Betty” bombers carrying the Japanese surrender envoys flew in, and saw the Betties land and Japanese officers disembark. He also visited Ernie Pyle’s grave on the island, described in a recent letter from M/Sgt. Don Gerber.

Home from Hospital.
Pfc. Henry Van Asselt Jr., is home from the hospital at Denver on furlough, recuperating from the abdominal wound received in Germany.

Home from France.
Pfc. Orval Behrens has arrived home from France and is spending his furlough here with his wife, the former Jean Steichen.

Lands on Queen Mary.
Warrant Officer Donald Kass landed Monday on the Queen Mary after long service in France and Germany. He telephoned his mother, Mrs. Mina Kass, Tuesday morning. His wife, now at Peterson with her parents, will go to St. Louis to spend the weekend with W. O. Kass and the couple are expected here the first of the week.

On Leave.

Donald Wiltgen SM3/c is here on leave from the Naval base at Little Creek, Norfolk, Va., visiting at the parental, J. P. Wiltgen home.

Leaves for Springfield.
S/Sgt. Martin Goergen left Wednesday for Springfield, Mo., where treatments for his eye will be resumed at the Army hospital there.

Here from Maryland.

Alvin Zenk, S2/c arrived home Friday to spend a week’s leave at the parental home before reporting back to Bainbridge, Md.
