NO SIOUX COUNTY MEN DRAFTED IN CALL NO. 13
TWO REPLACEMENTS WILL LEAVE ON MAY 27

Apparently the state draft board members are superstitious…….anyway they sent call No. 13 to the Sioux County board but did not ask for any men. The blanks on the form were filled in with a simple neat little zero.

Call No. 14 is expected before the end of this week. Men included in this call must be notified at least 10 days before they leave so the next group could not leave before the first week of June.

Four local boys have recently been classified 1-A and passed their physical exams, ready to go in the near future. They are: Richard Kroon, Henry Addink, Arnold VanSteenwyk, and Gary Verrips.

Two men have been inducted to replace men sent back from Omaha, to leave from Alton at 5:15 P.M. on May 27th:
730—Richard Rosgaard, Fairview, S.D.
985—Herman Boote, Hull

5 MEN CALLED TO ARMY ON JUNE 4

The following five men have been selected by the Sioux County Local Board to fill Call No. 14. They will leave Orange City on June 4th at 3:14 P.M. by train for the Induction Center at Fort Des Moines. The men selected to fill the call are as follows:
V-2223 Gary Henry Verrips, Sioux Center
V-1374 Richard J. Kroon, Sioux Center
143—Henry J. Heusinkveld, Hull
741—Boniface Wm. Hevern, Hudson, South Dakota

Although Sioux County is scheduled to furnish 54 more men for the army before July 1, it now looks as if only a few more men will be called before that date. According to draft board officials, Iowa has furnished more than her share of men so far.

In Call No. 15 to leave on June 17, there was a request for only one man. Adrian Scholten of Hull will fill this call.
