HAWARDEN AND VICINITY

A. C. Henning was a business caller at Concord, Neb., Monday.

Mrs. Rian Vander Zee entered the Hawarden hospital Tuesday as a medical
patient.

Miss Catherine Feikema returned Monday from Omaha where she had visited with
her sister.

Miss Dorothy Jenson of the Alcester vicinity was in Hawarden Wednesday on
her way to Sioux Falls.

Mrs. John White went to Tyler, Minn., Wednesday to visit with her daughter,
Mrs. Henry Hamersma and family.

Mrs. W. J. Taylor will leave on a trip this afternoon to Ida Grove and other
Iowa points to visit with relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Rehder departed Saturday morning for a week’s visit with
relatives at Gladbrook and other points in Tama county.

Mr. and Mrs. John Gearhart returned Monday from Danvers, Minn., where they
had visited in the home of his brother, David Gearhart.

Jake Porter of Inwood, John Ter Wee of Fairview and Gerben Keizer attended a
program and hybrid corn demonstration at Ames Monday.

James Rae of St. Paul was here last Friday trying his luck at pheasant
hunting on the South Dakota side. Russ Younie was his able assistant.

Miss Helen Greigg, who is employed at Ireton, came home Saturday to spend
the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Greigg. Her grandmother,
Mrs. Henriette Torwelle, accompanied her here for a visit in the Greigg
home.

Mrs. David Gearhart motored to Sioux Falls last Friday after her mother,
Mrs. H. C. Hansen, who was visiting with her son there, and she visited here
until Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart took her back to Sioux Falls.

Miss Lucille Coffman arrived last Thursday from Iowa City for a weeks visit
at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Coffman. Miss Coffman was
graduated last spring from the nurse’s training course at the State
University and since then has been retained as a member of the University
hospital staff.

Rev. J. Johnson, of Hazel, S.D., was an Ireton caller Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Judson McDougall of LeMars visited in the Albert De Raad home
Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Bartley Ogden and family of Schaller called on relatives here
over the week end.

Miss Edith Brown of Chicago came Sunday to visit her mother, Mrs. J. M.
Brown, and with other relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Abe Schouten and daughters of Canton visited his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Schouten, Sunday.

Mrs. Minnie Suter of Rock Valley visited her daughters, Mrs. W. F. Brown and
Mrs. Wm. Twillman, over the week end.

Miss Mary Lindenman of Sioux City came Saturday to visit over Sunday with
her father, E. A. Lindenman, and with other relatives.

Mrs. Anna Jipp and son Emil, who have been visiting in Illinois, stopped in
Ireton to visit with her sister, Mrs. Minnie Meyer, while enroute to their
home at Altamont, S.D.

Rev. A. J. Quirin of Sioux City filled the Methodist pulpit Sunday and
preached a very able sermon. He was assisted by Rev. D. M. Simpson, who was
a pastor of the church in 1916 and 1917.

Mrs. Melvin Moleman, nee Lela Vander Hamm, of Long Beach, Calif., who was
called here by the illness and subsequent death of her grandfather, John
Vander Hamm, is visiting with relatives here.

Mrs. G. I. Riley, of Canova, S.D., came last Friday to visit with her
mother, Grandma Taylor, and with other relatives until Sunday when Mr. Riley
and daughter Bessie came down and she accompanied them home.

Frank Noon and John and Francis of Toronto, S.D., visited at the Mrs. Alice
Stewart home Sunday. Mrs. Noon, who has been with her mother during her
illness, returned home with them, but Francis remained with his grandmother.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin of Spokane, Wash., have been visiting her cousins, Mr.
and Mrs. J. R. Karr and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Karr and family, and Edw.
C. Karr. On Sunday the group went to Riverside Park, Sioux City, to enjoy a
picnic dinner. They were joined there by Rev. D. M. Simpson, a former
pastor of the Methodist church in Ireton, now living in Kenosha, Wis.

Charles Tilford of Aberdeen, S.D., has been calling on friends in Ireton.

Teunis Knuebel returned Monday from Chicago where he had visited with his
children.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hagge and daughter, Leona, attended a Walther League
rally at Leeds Sunday.

Miss Helen Greigg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Greigg of Hawarden, is
the assistant in the Ireton telephone exchange.

Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Yates, living northwest of Ireton, entertained the
following guests Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Yates, and sons, Lloyd, Wesley and
Stanley; E. A. Lindenman; and Miss Mary Lindenman, of Sioux City.

Dr. Lloyd Hl Scheerer, district superintendent of the Sheldon district
Methodist church, and Rev. F. E. Burgess, former pastor at LeMars and
Sheldon, were Ireton callers Tuesday. They were on their way to Sioux City
to attend a Trustee’s meeting of Morningside College.

Rev. and Mrs. Clarence Tompkins and two sons of Rock Rapids were in Ireton
last Thursday and Mr. Tompkins was in charge of the Harry Collins funeral
services. They visited with numerous friends here and met many at the
Ladies Aid meeting which was held that afternoon. Mrs. G. L. Houlton, Mrs.
R. J. Smith and Mrs. Frank Wells were the hostesses. It was one of the
largest attended meetings of the year.
