CRAIG YOUNG FOLKS INJURED AT CROSSING
Three Craig young people were injured in a car accident Sunday evening at
the railway crossing two miles east of Alton on highway 10. Herman Rankin,
24 years, was the most severely injured, having received a fractured skull,
and is still in a serious condition at the LeMars hospital, where the
accident victims were taken after receiving first aid at a local medical
office. Otto Beitelspacher, age 19, received a severe cut on the face and
broken collarbone, and Miss Annie Ludwig, 19 years, had minor bruises and
lacerations.
The accident happened at dusk Sunday evening. The driver was unfamiliar with
the crossing and failed to slow down sufficiently to make the turn across
the track. The young people were returning home from Spencer. A second car
of Craig people were in the party, driving behind, and the occupants of the
second car brought the injured people to Alton for medical attention.
