Many Bad Blizzards
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ludwig( sic Ludwigs) celebrated their 54th wedding
anniversary at their home here May 7. They were both born in Germany, Mrs.
Ludwig on January 23, 1862 and Mr. Ludwig on May 11, 1853. Mrs. Ludwig came
to the United States when 7 months old. Mr. Ludwig celebrated his 20th
birthday aboard the vessel when he came. He settled in Nebraska and five
years later came to Plymouth county where he met and married Anna Hartman.
They settled on a farm which they bought and added to until they had 440
acres.
Twenty years ago they retired and moved to Craig. They saw all the
hardships of pioneer days and speak of such bad blizzards on the open
prairie. Their neighbor stretched a wire from the house to the barn so that
in time of storms he could find his way back and forth.
Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig are the parents of 11 children, 3 of whom are dead.
There are 33 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The children are
Gerd and Will Ludwig of Chatsworth, Mrs. Anna Lammers; , Struble; Mrs. Lena
Minets of Akron, Otto, Henry and Eilert Ludwigs of Craig and Mrs. Marie
Borchers of Hawarden.
