GRUBEL—KINEEN
Dr. W. J. Kineen, formerly a barber in this city, but now chiropractor, was
united in marriage in St. Michael’s church Tuesday morning at 7 o’clock. Dr.
Kineen and his bride will leave for a wedding trip through the Black Hills
and Yellowstone Park. They will make their home at Sioux City.
HIGGINS—KELLEY
Miss Mary Stella Higgins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Higgins was married
to Mr. Charles Edward Kelley, son of Mr. P. Kelley of Rock Rapids Wednesday
morning, June 24th in St. Mary’s church by Rev. J. Foerster. They were
attended by Miss Agnes Kelley, the bridegroom’s sister, who was maid of
honor and Ambrose Higgins, brother of the bride, as best man.
The bride wore a lovely gown of orchid mousseline de soire with jacket and
trim of the same material embroidered, a hat of white hair braid and carried
a bouquet of roses. The bride is a graduate of De Sales Heights Academy,
Dubuque, and of the State Teacher’s College. After their wedding trip the
couple will make their home at Tilden, Nebr.
BOYDEN: (Special Correspondence)
GRIFFITH—DETHMERS
At Rockwell City on June 16, Miss Edna Griffith of that place was married to
Mr. John Dethmers of Boyden. The ceremony took place at noon, with Rev. W.
L. Robinson officiating.
The bride was gowned in a white georgette, wore a tulle veil and carried a
bouquet of roses and lilies. Her matron of honor was Mrs. James McLafferty
of Davenport and her bridesmaid, Miss Margaret Taylor. Miss Mildred Neurman
of Marion played the wedding march. Sam Verhoef of Boyden was best man for
the bridegroom. Both young people are well known and liked here, the bride
having taught at Boyden for two years. They will reside on the farm near
Boyden.
Guests from here at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. A. Dethmers, Alverna and
Robert, Nancy and Gerrit Rens, Hildred Dykstra, Sam Verhoef, Paul Hein,
Gerhard Hein and Henry DeJong.

MISS VANDER SLOOT WEDDED TO HULL MAN
Miss Jeanette Vande Sloot, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Vande Sloot, was
united in marriage Monday evening, June 29th, to Gt. Korselman, of Hull. The
ceremony was performed at eight o’clock, Rev. Haverkamp officiating. Miss
Josephine Doornink played the nuptial music from Lohengrin preceding the
ceremony and Miss Harietta Vande Berg sang, “O Promise Me.”
The bride wore a lovely frock of green georgette with silk lace trimming.
After the ceremony, luncheon was served. Only immediate relatives and
intimate friends were present.
The bride is a charming young lady popular in this vicinity and the
bridegroom has a host of friends at Hull where he has been employed for
several years with a silo company. The couple will be at home after July
first at Paullina, Iowa.

Farm Fire Near Remsen
Fire on the Herman B. Holdgrafer farm near Remsen, June 27th, destroyed a garage and an automobile owned by Jos. Schierholt, Sr. Mr. Schierholt, in company with Mr. and Mrs. Schierholt, Jr., who live with the Holdgrafer family, started on a trip and when radiator trouble developed they returned to the Holdgrafer home and took a car belonging to Mr. Schierholt, Jr., leaving the other car in the garage. This was about 3 o’clock in the afternoon, and about 10:30 that night fire broke out. The Remsen fire department responded to a call for help and kept the flames from spreading to the other buildings.
