TEN CHILDREN ALL HONORED MOTHER
A surprise birthday dinner was held at the home of Mrs. Mary Gacke, of Hull,
April 2, in honor of her birthday. All her children and their families were
present except five grandchildren, who could not be there on account of
illness. There were forty-two present, 22 grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
The dining room and two large tables were beautifully decorated. The dining

daughters and four sons were seated at one table. The other table’s honored
guest was Mrs. Ben Gacke of Alvord, the day also being her natal
anniversary. A delicious dinner, which the guests brought with them, was
served by Misses Eva, Elnora Murphy, Veronica Gacke and Leona De Smet. Ice
cream and 2 large birthday cakes were served in the afternoon.
Table decorations were in pink, with a profusion of cut roses. Forty eight
were seated at the bounteous repast.
The children are as follows: Ben Gacke and family, Martin Gacke and family
and August Gacke and family, all of Alvord; Mrs. Eva O’Conner, Dell Rapids,
S.D.; Mrs. Dora DeSmet and family, Rock Valley; Mrs. Rose Murphy, Hull; Mrs.
Mary Umhoefer and family, Triumph, Minn.; Gregory, Misses Clara and Agnes,
at home.
“BON VOYAGE” PARTY FOR MRS. SCHUMACHER
Mrs. Nick Schumacher was guest of honor at a party given by Mrs. Mary Sauer
at the latter’s home Tuesday afternoon by way of farewell, as Mrs.
Schumacher leaves next Tuesday for a trip abroad. Cards were the afternoon
diversion, after which the refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted
by Miss Nell Schroeder and Miss Louise Nothe. About 23 friends of Mrs.
Schumacher were present.
They presented her with a useful “bon voyage” gift. Mrs. Schumacher leaves
New York for Antwerp, Belgium, April 17, and from there will go to Kaundorf,
Luxemburg to visit her mother and sisters. She will also visit other
European places of interest, including Brussels, Belgium, which was her home
for four years. She will spend three or four months abroad and expects to
return in August.

Easter Sunday guests at the home of Mrs. Helen Hensing were Emmett Hensing
and daughter, Irene Mae and Andrew Hensing, all of Ames; Clarence Hensing of
Creighton University and a friend, Miss Margaret Dutton of Ottumway, who is
a student at Nebraska University, Lincoln; Miss Irene Hensing and Joe
Bogaard of Rock Valley.
