SCHUTT-DYKSTRA
Miss Johanna Schutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schutt, of Sioux Center,
and Mr. Henry Dykstra, of Hull, were married at the Schutt home at Sioux
Center, last week Wednesday.
Mr. Dykstra has been employed by Luke Kooiker at the Produce Plant for a
year or two, well able to care for the lady of his choice.
The Index joins in congratulations and in welcoming these young people to
Hull, where they expect to make their future home.
GRANDMA BLESSING GONE
Mrs. Martha Blessing passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H.
Lutjens, in Hull, last Friday morning, at 1:30 o'clock, after an illness of
eleven weeks.
Mrs. Blessing was past eighty-eight years old and has lived in this vicinity
for the past twenty-four years. She was born in Kirchheilmyen, Germany on
June 9th, 1839. In the year 1853 she was united in marriage to Theodore
Blessing, of Ufhoven, Germany. To this union were born eight children, three
of them and the husband dying in the old country, before Mrs. Blessing came
to this country in 1903.
The surviving children are Mrs. H. Lemcke, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mrs. J.
H. Lutjens, of Hull, Iowa, O. C. Blessing, of Sheldon, Iowa, Mrs. E. Hirt,
of Boyden, Iowa, and Carl Blessing, of Wadena, Minnesota. There are
thirty-three grand-children and thirty-six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, at the home and from St. Paul's
Lutheran church north of Hull and the remains were laid to rest in the
cemetery near by, Rev. Goeringer officiating.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs.
Buckman, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. McCormack, Laurens, Iowa; L. H.
Lutjens, Sheldon, Iowa; O. F. Lutjens, Sioux City, Iowa; A. P. Lutjens, Fort
Crook, Nebr.; Mrs. Lemcke, St. Paul, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Blessing,
Sheldon, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. E. Hirt, and Mr. and Mrs. C. Hirt, of Boyden;
and Mr. and Mrs. H. Oberman, Orange City, Iowa.
Mrs. Blessing was a kind motherly person and had a host of friends, who
mourn with the relatives in her departing.
The Index wishes to join in extending sincere sympathy to the surviving
relatives.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends for the
kindness and sympathy shown us in our late bereavement, the departing of
Mother Blessing. ~The Family.

Mrs. E. Graham and son, Loren, Ethyl Graham, Mrs. Jack Faber and son,
Kenneth, motored to Ireton, Wednesday, of last week, to bring back Helen
Graham, who had been caring for her little niece, Helen Wilmina, who arrived
at the Charles Cain home, June 10th.

We failed to mention last week that Jake VerSluls had a runaway while
plowing his corn and potatoes. The team became unmanageable on account of
the flies, and with his one hand, he was unable to hold them in their
course. Jake was thrown to the ground, but hung on and was dragged for
several hundred feet, badly bruising his shoulder and otherwise scratching
his body. Jake is tough, however, and is out and around and about his garden
as usual again, not much the worse for his experience.

S. A. VanHarn left Tuesday evening for North Dakota points, where he will be
working in the interest of Western Academy for some time. Mr. VanHarn is
Financial Secretary of the institution.

Gerben, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John TeSlaa had the misfortune to
fall from the hay mow, the past week, and cut a gash in his hand, which
required professional attention.
FUNERAL LAST FRIDAY
The funeral of the little twins, Robert and Richard, of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Schmidt, who died last week, of spinal meningitis, was held last Friday from
the home and from the German Lutheran church, northeast of Hull.
Rev. Goeringer officiated and the little ones were laid to rest in the
cemetery near the church.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. Wm. Schmidt and Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Gust, of Elkton, South Dakota, and Mrs. Herman Schlobaum and
Mrs. Henry Hollander, of Aurora, South Dakota.
The sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended to Mr. and Mrs.
Schmidt in their deep sorrow.

sympathy during the illness and since the death of our beloved twins, Robert
and Richard.
