COURT HOUSE NEWS NOTES

Saturday the petition of W. R. Moir for divorce from May Kittson Moir was
dismissed after a hotly contested suit which engaged the attention of a
court room full of spectators.

On Monday the case of the Paxton-Eckman Chemical Co. against Henry Van Wyk
was tried to a jury, which was unable to agree and was discharged Tuesday
after prolonged deliberation. Suit was brought on a note given plaintiff for
stock food. The defendant claimed false representations and a break of
warranty.

Alfred Warnke of Paullina was fined $25 and costs, which he paid, for
injuring Mrs. Jacob Fisch of Granville on Oct. 24 with his auto. Warnke
failed to stop and report his name and the number of his machine, as
required by law and was indicted. The law makes such failure to stop and
report name and number to the nearest Justice or marshal a felony punishable
by either fine or imprisonment.

The case of Van Beek against Den Ouden was settled out of court.

Judge Hutchinson adjourned court on Thursday, the session having been rather
a light one.

The petit jury had great good luck, having been discharged on Tuesday, just
in time to reach their homes before the storm which shut down most of the
trains for twenty-four hours.

The next term begins Feb. 28.
