Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mouw returned from a visit in Pella.
G. Popma is spending the week with relatives in Pella.
W. S. Short is confined to his home with stomach trouble.
C. Vander Plaats of Edgerton, Minnesota, is here for a visit.
Mrs. Oscar Anderson came from Alta for a visit with relatives.
R. Wigton and C. Graham of Sioux City were here Tuesday.
A. Jansma of Gascoyne, N.D. was here a few days this week.
A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lubbers last Sunday.
A son was born the past week to Mr. and Mrs. E. Kleinhesselink.
John Scholten went to Mankato, Minnesota, for a few days visit.
A. Vanden Bergen of Corsica, S.D., called on friends in this city.
Miss Evelyn Mak is a guest of her cousin, Miss Frances Newburg.
H. Spaan Sr. celebrated his eightieth birthday anniversary Friday.
Mrs. Mary Mak and children of Sheldon are visiting with Mrs. Newburg.
Miss Ida Bomgaars will return to Waupun, Wisconsin, Friday of this week.
Supt. F. E. Fuller went to Ames last Monday to attend the Short Course.
The Misses Esther and Martha Jongewaard are visiting relatives at Sheldon.
Miss Hattie Mulder returned to her home in Yuma, Colorado, after a visit
here.
A. Smeenk left on Tuesday for Sturgis, Michigan, to attend to business
matters.
Miss Annette Pas was united in marriage to Geo. Simmons at Sioux City last
week.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Jongewaard of Hurley, South Dakota, are spending the week
here.
George De Bey of Doon spent Sunday at the home of his brother, Dr. A. De
Bey.
G. Vander Plaats came from Edgerton, Minnesota, to attend to business
matters.
J. J. Dykstra of Grant county, South Dakota, is a guest at the R. De Young
home.
Henry Klein of Geddes, South Dakota, spent Sunday at the home of his
brother, J. T.
The Misses Clara and Jennie Bakker are visiting at the home of their parents
in Doon.
Miss Ethel Brewster of Sheldon was the guest of her sister, Mrs. L. O. Lohr,
the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. Van Essen of Chandler, Minnesota, are visiting in this town and
vicinity.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Feikema and baby came from Doon for a visit at the F. Van
Engen home.
Attorney P. D. Van Oosterhout was in Sheldon on Tuesday to attend the
funeral of Mr. Koele.
Roy Krane came from Sanborn last week and spent Sunday at the home of his
sister, Mrs. Fuller.
The Misses Marie and Anna Jacobsen of Sioux Falls are visiting at the O. G.
Reiniger home.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Vogelaar came from Litchville, North Dakota, for a visit at
the G. Beyer home.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Luymes returned to their home in Armour, South Dakota, after
a pleasant visit here.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Jongewaard returned to their home in Marion, North
Dakota, last week.
Mr. and Mrs. L. Snyders are spending a few weeks with relatives and friends
in Pella and Knoxville.
Messrs and Mesdames G. T. Hatley and A. W. Lohr left on Monday for
California for a six weeks stay.
Services were held in the Dutch churches on Tuesday at the closing of the
year, and again on Wednesday.
Miss Matilda De Jong of Sioux City spent Sunday at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. K. De Jong.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Wynia and family of Lakota, North Dakota, arrived here and
are making this their home.
Peter Balkema left on Wednesday for Storm Lake for a brief visit before
resuming his studies at Ann Arbor.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Te Brake of Milwaukee paid a fleeting visit at the A. W.
Muilenburg home the past week.
A. C. Kuyper and C. Vander Meer left on Monday for Ames where they will take
the short agricultural course.
H. H. McKee left for Greeley, Kansas, last Saturday in response to a
telegram announcing the death of his aunt.
Rev. Niehuas of South Dakota will occupy the pulpit of the First Reformed
church next Sunday morning.
The G. Van Horssen family has taken possession of the house recently
purchased by them from H. J. Noomen.
Miss Etta De Kraai of Rapid City, South Dakota, who has been visiting her
parents at Maurice, called on friends here.
A. J. Kolyn of Grand Haven, Michigan, arrived here Tuesday for a few days
visit at the P. D. Van Oosterhout home.
Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Ashenfelter returned to their home in Boone this week
after a short visit at the Dr. H. P. Oggel home.
The congregation of the American Reformed church presented Rev. and Mrs.
McEwan with two fine chairs at Christmas time.
Mrs. Cornelia Van Oosterhout and daughter, Miss Dena, went to Sheldon on
Tuesday to attend the funeral of their friend, Mr. Koele.
Mr. and Mrs. John Aalbers went to Sioux City last Saturday to visit the
former’s parents, who are being treated in a hospital at that place.
At the sale held last Saturday, M. Van Peursem purchased the Ben Aalders
property, consisting of a house and five lots, for the sum of $1250.
After spending some months with relatives in this town and county, N.
Jongewaard returned on Wednesday to his home in North Yakima, Washington.
Cornelius G. Hospers left on Saturday for Pella to be present at the wedding
this week of his cousin, Miss Jeanette Hospers, to Samuel Van Vliet.
Marriage licenses were issued to the following: Walter Hiltgen and Opal
Boyce; Fred W. Juffer and Winnie T. Green; Cornelius Bonnes and Kate Westra.
George Bowers, who is attending the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis
and who is spending the holidays in Alton, was a guest at the Reiniger home
last Sunday.
The biggest farm sale of the season will be held Thursday, January 16th. See

While out hunting last Monday, Will Mouw had the misfortune to stumble which
caused his gun to discharge, the bullet entering his left foot. Medical aid
was speedily summoned and the wound is healing nicely.
There were ninety-two present at the banquet given in Hotel Betten last
Friday evening. A goodly delegation of alumni were present, besides a number
of University students. There were also a large number of high school
seniors from Hawarden, Ireton, Hull, Alton and this place.
R. TeGrotenhuis, residing east of town, had an accident on Monday which
caused him to lose the second and third fingers of his right hand in a corn
sheller. The first fingers is badly bruised, but here is hope that it will
not become necessary to amputate it. Although the patient is suffering
severely, he is doing as well as could be expected.
Miss Kate Westra and Cornelius Bonnes were united in marriage at the home of
the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Westra, on Friday of last week. The
ceremony was performed by Rev. Timmerman in the presence of relatives and
friends. The bride and groom will make their home on a farm near Sanborn.
William C. Muilenburg, who was seriously hurt in an auto accident near
LeMars last week Monday evening, passed away in the hospital at LeMars
Sunday afternoon. Deceased was twenty-four years of age. The remains were
brought home on Monday and the funeral was held on Wednesday, services being
held in the First Reformed church in the afternoon, conducted by Revs.
Engelsman and McEwan.
DIED:
Mrs. William Hill died at the LeMars hospital on Saturday last. She was taken sick on Christmas eve and on Thursday was taken to the LeMars hospital where she was operated on for abscess but the trouble had so far developed that no relief could be obtained and she passed away on Saturday.
Deceased was born at Adrian, Minn., on July 2, 1887. On May 13, 1903, she was united in marriage to William Hill, of Worthington, Minnesota. The union was blessed with a daughter, Grace, who with the husband is left to mourn an untimely death. Deceased is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Chas. Blumenau of Adrian, Minn., and one brother, Charles Blumenau of Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Funeral services were held at LeMars, from the Robert Mahling home, on Monday. Interment was made at LeMars.
