April 12, 1913

Mrs. Gerdina Dresselhuys, an old resident of LeMars, died at her home, 617 Cedar street, on Saturday night, April 5, 1913, following a long illness.  Mrs. Dresselhuys had been ill for the past year, suffering from diabetes, and for some time it had been known that recovery was hopeless and that the end was near.  Mrs. Dresselhuys was a native of Holland, and was born at Voorste October 25, 1841, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Dr. G. F. Dresselhuys, and to this union nine children were born, seven girls and two boys, who are:  Mrs. Fred Weenink, Carnes; Fred Dresselhuys, Wagner, South Dakota; Mrs. Wm. Blessing, Chicago; Mrs. C. L. Loffler, Denver, Colo.; Clarence Dresselhuys, Aberdeen, South Dakota; Mrs. C. W. Edmonds, Omaha, Nebr.; Misses Hattie, Effie and Mathilda Dresselhuys, of LeMars.

Following the death of her husband, which occurred in Holland, Mrs. Dresselhuys brought her family of children to LeMars, which has been their home since.  She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. J. Wandscheeer, of Sioux Center.  The funeral will be held from the residence at half past two on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. M. O. Lambly, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating, the deceased having been a member of that church for many years.—LeMars Sentinel.

SHELDON:
~Edward Ward answered the final summons on Sunday evening in the city, where he had spent the declining years of his life.  The immediate cause of death was advanced age.  Mr. Ward had seen valiant service in the War of the Rebellion, and his passing has left a gap in the thinning ranks of the survivors of that great struggle.  Coming to O’Brien county at an early day, he with the noble helpmeet, who several years ago preceded him to the great beyond, established a home on the virgin soil of Iowa, and acquired a competency which enabled them to pass their latter years in peace, happiness and comfort.  Two children—a son, Edward—and a daughter, Mrs. Emma Dockendorf—both residents of Sheldon, were born of the union.  The funeral arrangements are unknown to this writer at the present time.  Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved friends and relatives in the loss which they have sustained.

~The sudden and unexpected demise of Miss Etta Kimmel, which occurred on Saturday morning at the parental home west of Sheldon, has brought sorrow to a host of friends in the city and its immediate vicinity.  Miss Etta, who was the oldest daughter of Ex-Senator and Mrs. W. L. Kimmel, was born in the home where the years of her entire life were spent, and was thought to have been in the enjoyment of her usual health, when she was called to her eternal abode.  Rev. Rolsten—pastor of the Church of the Brethren, of which she was in life a consistent member—conducted the funeral services on Monday afternoon, after which the mortal remains were consigned to their final resting place in East Lawn Cemetery.  The home of which she was an inmate has been bereft of her beloved presence, and nothing now remains but a hallowed memory which will ever be cherished by her loved ones.  Tender sympathy is extended.
