Death of Mrs. P.R. Schaap

Died:  --At her home in Orange City, Iowa, on Sunday morning, May 23rd,
1897, at 10:30 a.m., after a lingering illness of eight weeks duration.
Mrs. Fannie Schaap, deceased, was the respected wife of our sheriff,
P.R.Schaap.  She was born in Marguette Co., Wis., Nov. 5th, 1864, and
with her parents came to Sioux county in its early days.  She came to
Orange City in 1881, and on Dec. 31, 1883, was married to P.R.Schaap.

She leaves a mourning husband, to whom this blow is one of the hardest
mortal man is required to bear and five children, named Cornie, Fremont,
Jennie, Ray and Mamie, the eldest being only 12 years, and none of them
of an age to appreciate the loss they suffer.

Her old father, the well-known and highly esteemed, Isaiah Coon of
Ireton, survives her and the loss of this child falls heavily upon his
gray head.  She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. L.M. Black of Ireton,
Mrs. H.J. Lenderink of Orange City, and Mrs. C.P. Mayhew of Woodstock,
Minn., and one brother, Fremont Coon, of Ireton.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. Kolyn in the American
Reformed church at this place, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and the body
consigned to the last resting place.  The attendance of friends and
relatives to this last sad duty was very large-the church was crowded.

Deceased was loved and respected by all who have known her, and was a
model wife.  She was cut down on the threshold of what seemed a long and
happy life.  At the early age of 32 years she was called upon to lay
aside the cares and duties of this life and to enter into her eternal
reward.  The hope and trust of the surviving relatives and friends, that
to her, death is but the entrance to a glory that shall never dim, to a
joy that knows no sorrow, and to an endless life of bliss, cheers them
in their afflictions.

We sympathize deeply with the heavily stricken father and husband, and
the poor motherless babes, who are left to mourn this great loss, as
well as the relatives and friends.-the Orange City Herald.
