Death of W. H. Hemmersbach
Monday evening as he returned from a sale at John Thielens
in Washington Township, W. H. Hemmersbach was thrown from his
seat on a hog rack upon his wagon, and his neck broken and front
of the skull fractured. His hired man, who saw the accident from
the field where he was plowing, hastened to his aid and found him
under the wagon box but death had already ensued. Mr.
Hemmersbach had attended the sale purposing to buy some hogs
but not finding any to suit him drove to Panama and thence home.
As he was about to enter the gate of his barn yard his team
became unmanageable and overturned the wagon throwing him
underneath. Deceased leaves three children, the oldest a boy of
eighteen years of age.
Four years ago about half a mile from where he met his death,
Hemmersbachs wife and daughter were drowned in the creek
during an overflow the bridge going down. He began a damage suit
against the county for a large sum which was compromised for
$500.
