GARVEY HELD TO JURY IN CHECK CASE
Alleged Forger Waives Preliminary Hearing on State Charge
Matt Garvey was held to the grand jury this morning
after he was
arraigned in police court and waived preliminary hearing on a charge of
forgery. He was represented by Attorney B.T. O'Neil.
Garvey was arrested Saturday night after he passed a
bogus check for $5
at the Ginsberg store, 108 East Second street. He claimed the check was
given him by a stranger who was to meet him later, but when police waited
for the stranger to appear he could not be found.
The check was drawn on the Buffalo Savings bank by
Garvey who signed
the name W.A. Carpenter to the instrument and made it payable to J.
Williams. His attorney said his client would enter a plea in district court
within a day or two.
