DIAMOND RING STOLEN WHILE OWNER SLEEPS
Thinks Woman Took Gem From Finger After Inn Party Last Night.
A man giving his name as Otto Harbeck notified police, at
2:30 o'clock this morning, that a valuable diamond ring had been stolen from his
finger while he was asleep at Hollywood Inn, Nahant, last night.
Harbeck said that he suspected the woman, with whom he
had been talking, of the theft.
Police are investigating the case.

HUBBY OBJECTS TO "TOUCHING" HE IS ARRESTED
Queen of Cook's Point Makes Consort Walk Home All Alone.
Because her husband objected when she took $20 out of his
trousers pocket, leaving him only 40 cents in changes, Rose Wedeker, uncrowned
queen on Cook's Point shanty settlement, obtained his arrest by Officer James
Carroll last night.
The man, William Jones, proved a target for his wife's
vitriolic attack when he appeared in police court on a peace disturbance charge
this morning.
"She didn't leave me only 40 cents," Jones
explained, in a pathetic voice.
"You're darn right I didn't!" cried Rose. "You
euchred me out of my money and I'm going to get it back! You lay around drinking
hooch and entertaining your drunken friends. From now on I'm wearing the
pants!"
Stating that he believes Jones' arrest to have been
unjustifiable, Magistrate Metcalf ordered Rose to pay the court costs of $5.35,
admonishing Jones to leave the "royal" cabin at once.
"Well, I'm going to ride home!" the woman
announced, after she had laid the fine defiantly on the judge's bench. "He
can walk--I hope he likes it!"

SOLD HOOCH IN COFFEE CUPS AT VALLEY FAIR; POLICE CLOSE STAND
Because he sold hooch in coffee cups at
the Mississippi Valley Fair Sunday, Charles "Cracker" Meyer faced
charges violating the national prohibition act in the court of the United States
Commissioner A.G. Bush today. He was arrested by Officers Kuehl and Rogers of
the police force and Prohibition Officer Roy E. Muhs.
Meyer operated a stand with hot dogs and coffee as a
side line - right on the Midway at the Fair. But it was whispered about in
circles believed to be interested that the coffee, while somewhat expensive, was
very drinkable coffee indeed.
In fact, the percentage of "caffeine" was so
great that those who took two cups went reeling away in the best of spirits.
Police Officer Lodge noted this phenomenon and did a little mental addition, -
he put two and two together.
Then, in company with Officers Kuehl and Muhs, he paid
an official visit to the stand and examined the "coffee". It was
fortunate that they came when they did. Business had been so good that only a
half pint of "moonshine" was still in stock when the stand was raided
according to the information filed in the commissioner's court this morning
following the raid of Saturday evening. He is charged with the possession of
three gallons of liquor.

PAYS $100 FOR TWO DRINKS IN POLICE COURT
Proprietor of Northwest Davenport Saloon Assessed Heavy Fine
Two ounces of moonshine whiskey in a
water glass behind his bar - just two meager drinks-put in motion the machinery
of the law and resulted in a fine of $100 and costs for Ed Ehlers, proprietor of
a saloon at 1502 West Locust street, in police court this morning. The charge
was that of conducting a disorderly house.
Ehlers' bar was raided by Prohibition Agent Roy E. Muhs
and by Officer Patrick Dietz at 8:00 o'clock last night. According to Mr. Muhs,
Ehlers is known as "the king of Northwest Davenport."
