IS VICTIM of AUTO ACCIDENT.
Mrs. Mary Effenbeck, 732 West Fifth street, died this
morning at Mercy hospital as the result of injuries sustained
when she was struck by an automobile, Oct. 15. [Page 8: Large

AUTO ACCIDENT IS FATAL TO MRS. EFFENBECK
A compound fracture of both legs sustained when she was
struck by an automobile October 15, resulted in the death of Mrs.
Mary B. Effenbeck, age 48, 732 West Fifth street, at St. Lukes
hospital this morning. Her death occurred at 5 oclock.
Mrs. Effenbeck had been confined to the hospital since the
evening of October 15, when she was struck by an automobile
driven by Louis Shorey at Fifteenth and Main streets. The
accident occurred at 9:30 in the evening as the automobile was
going north on the east side of Main street near the north
crossing.
Mrs. Effenbeck was hurled to the pavement and when she was
removed to the hospital an examination showed that both of her
limbs were fractured.
In the car with Shorey at the time the accident occurred were
Faye Shorey, Jack and Gertrude Schaefer of Davenport.
Mrs. Effenbeck was born in LaHarpe, Ill., 48 years ago. She
married Henry Effenbeck Dec. 3, 1896. The deceased had resided in
Davenport for a number of years.
She was a member of the Christian Church of this city and also
belonged to the following organizations: Wide Awake Rebekah
Lodge, No. 9; Knights and Ladies of Security, No. 3288; and Lady
Maccabees.
The survivors are her husband and a daughter, Orpha. A son
Wendall, died May 13, 1919. Other survivors are her father, A. J.
Hillier, of LaHarpe; two sisters, Miss Jennie Hillier at home,
Mrs. Anna Englan of Blansville, Ill., and two brothers, George
Hillier of Wisconsin and William Hillier of Muscatine.
The funeral will be held Sunday from the Ruhl and Ebert funeral
home. The arrangements are waiting the arrival of her father.
