MARRIED WOMAN BY FALSE PRETENSES
Keokuk, Ia., Feb. 9.A peculiar case was finished
in Quincy, Ill., Saturday which started in Keokuk with the arrest
of the principal in the case.
There was a family named Hainline living in Tennessee at one
time, and there were two sons, Jesse and Jacob. Jesse grew up to
be a man respected in the community, but Jacobs name was
not so untarnished.
In the course of time they moved north, or Jacob did, and some
time ago he advertised for a housekeeper, while living in
Illinois. He fell in love with the woman who answered his ad, and
passed himself off for his more virtuous brother. They were
married Jan. 2, at Quincy.
A few days later an old acquaintance of the family informed the
woman she had been tricked, and that it was Jacob and not Jesse
she married. A warrant was issued for Jacobs arrest and he
was taken into custody in this city. Today a jury in Quincy found
him guilty on the charge of impersonating another for the purpose
of marrying.
