ANDERSON'S CARELESS CHOICE OF EPITHETS.
He Applied Them to a Waitress and Paid $8 in Court.
Because the girls in the dining room and those whose duties were
to clean up the rooms at the Miller hotel on West Second street,
teased him in various ways, Jacob Anderson, one of the boarders,
became very angry and spoke crossly to one of the young ladies
waiting on the table. He made use of epithets to the waitress in
the presence of a number of his fellow boarders. Alice Buergel is
the name of the young woman thus insulted and she hastened to
file complaint before Justice Altman. Constable Holiday brought
Anderson into court and a dozen or more employes and boarders at
the Miller hotel came along to see the trial. Anderson pleaded
guilty and paid the fine and costs amounting in all to $8. He is
a young man employed on the construction work on the Rock Island
road. He alleged that Miss Buergel struck him on the arm and made
it black and blue. This was denied; however, by all who witnessed
the trouble.
