Wm. H. Smith died at his residence on North Capital St. last evening at 9:30
o'clock. He was born in Pennsylvania and during the war served in the 6th
PA Regiment. His army service left him broken down in health. In
1877 he
moved with his family to Iowa City, where he has since resided. During the
last ten years he has been a great sufferer fro rheumatism and the greater
part of the time has been helpless. He was a man of quiet retiring
disposition and excellent character. He leaves a widow and eight children.
The funeral will be under the direct of the G.A.R., the date of which cannot
be determined until his son, Dr. F.H. Smith of Goodland, Kan., is heard
from.
