AROUSE YE!
The Locofocos of Jackson county have had a public meeting,
amongst resolutions passed was the following: That the
several townships in the county be requested to appoint three
delegates to meet at the County Seat on Thursday next, to make
out a Democratic ticket, to be supported at the next August
election; also to appoint three delegates to meet those of
Dubuque, Clayton and Delaware, to nominate candidates for the
district to be supported for the Council. What say the
Whigs to this resolution? Is it not time that they were acting?
Shall the Locos again possess the ascendancy in our Legislature
and by their midnight caucuses exclude, not only Whigs, but even
residents of Whig counties from possessing offices? Shall Locos
again represent Whig districts? Shall every leading Whig measure
be quashed in our Legislative Assembly for non-exertion to obtain
the power to sustain them? Shall Scott and Clinton persist in
having their principles misrepresented in the Legislature? Be
active, be energetic, Whigs all or the wily foe will again
deceive some of you by specious professions which are violated as
soon as power is reached. Remember the past and act accordingly.
