from running at large in the town became effective today and

NOTICE TO CHICKEN OWNERS:
We have an ordinance known as a chicken ordinance, and it has
teeth in it. This ordinance has been tested in Mount Ayr and
found effectual and (penalty) very severe. Our records show a
fine of $5.00 and costs was paid as a penalty for allowing
chickens to run at large inside of the incorporation. Word has
come to the Mayor recently that some chickens are now running at
large, so I take this method of giving you this information for
your benefit. There is no open season for chickens running at
large.
C. J. Lewis, Mayor
