The Concert
On Thursday and Friday evenings of last week, Prof. Mueller gave a Concert at Concert Hall, and so far as we have been able to ascertain public sentiment, the Professor and his scholars gave general satisfaction. We understand that at the commencement of the quarter, but three of the ladies who played upon the Piano Forte, had ever attempted to play upon that instrument, and when we take this fact into consideration, we do not hesitate in pronouncing the Concert a decided success. From the extraordinary advancement made by Prof. Mueller’s scholars, all must admit that he is master of the science, and as a Professor of music has few equals, and no superiors.

At the close of the Concert premiums valued at $75 were distributed among the scholars. The following comprises the list of names to whom prizes were awarded.

First Class–1st prem. Mrs. W. C. James; 2d prem. Miss Camelia Turley; 3rd prem. Miss Ellen Joiner. Second Class-1st prem. Miss Fanny Kellogg; 2d prem. Miss Hattie Ramsey; 3rd prem. Mrs. M. Rogers. Third Class-1st prem. Miss O. Ballard; 2d prem. Miss Hortense Street; 3rd prem. Miss E. Bayliss.

Without any desire to make an invidious distinction, we must be permitted to say, that the singing of Mrs. James, far exceeded our most sanguine expectations, and were she not an American by birth, she would pass for a “star” in any of our Eastern Cities. The Council Bluffs & St. Joseph Railroad song, composed by our townsman John H. Sherman, Esq., was rendered in superior style and all who heard it sung fancied that they in reality heard the cars coming. We understand that Prof. Mueller intends to continue his school in this city. May he succeed as his merits deserve.
