JESSE SHEPARD AND TOM ROYAL TAKEN TO PRISON.

Jesse Shepard, child deserter, and Tom Royal, convicted of robbing an oil station, were taken to the state penitentiary at Fort Madison yesterday afternoon by Deputy Sherriff William Shuey and Tony Sarcone, city health officer.

Shepard, who pleaded guilty in 1926 to deserting two minor children, had his parole revoked by Judge Joseph Meyer Saturday at the instigation of Assistant County Attorney, Mason Ladd.  Ladd introduced evidence to show that Shepard had received an average wage of $12 a week for the past two years with the exception of the last two months and had failed to pay a cent toward his children’s support.  Shepard’s wife has been forced to work in a laundry to support herself and children, according to Ladd.

Royal was sentenced to twenty-five years in the penitentiary by Judge W. G. Bonner last week.
