Yesterday afternoon the Misses Moss entertained—a pre-nuptial—complimentary to Miss Herriott. Forty-eight were bidden. The decorations were ferns, roses, and carnations. Light refreshments were served. Assisting were the Misses May Guthrie, Alta Henshaw and Ethel Dowdna. Each guest was asked to write her favorite recipe, these forming a recipe book, which was given to Miss Herriott.

Miss Rena Vawter entertains, Wednesday evening, the Class of ’99 of Drake University.

Invitations have been issued for Tuesday, June 19, by Mrs. Edward S. Wishard and Miss Wishard, 1822 Sixth avenue, from 2:30 TO 6.

The members of the freshman class of Des Moines college have received the following invitation: “Reunion of Goose family: Old Mother Goose at Home Saturday evening, June 9 - 1303 College avenue. Each guest is requested to come costumed as one of the goslins and to give a verse explaining her mishap.”

Mrs. E. E. Clark and Miss Miles have issued invitations for a musicale Tuesday morning, June 19.

The Pen and Point Club will spend a social afternoon with Mrs. Geo. McNutt Wednesday, June 13.

The calendar of the Des Moines Women’s Club, 1900-1901, has been sent to the printer. It contains the programme for the coming years, the list of officers, the personnel of the special and standing committees of the club, the directory of members, constitution and by-laws of the organization and other detailed information usually included in its pages. The programme is expected to be unusually beneficial to the club this year. There will be more general discussions than usual upon topics of mutual interest, designed for mutual benefit. The invitation always extended to some person outside the club, usually a gentleman, to be present and address the club during the year, has been accepted this year by George H. Warner, associate editor of the World’s Best Literature. Mr. Warner will be in Des Moines May 22, 1901, under the auspices of the philosophy and science committee, and read a paper before the club.

Mr. Fred Ainly is in Fairhope, Ala., spending his vacation.

Miss Grace Pugh has gone to her home in Springdale, Arkansas.

Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cousins have returned home from Perry.

Mrs. Tyler Scoville expects to visit friends in Vinton next week.

John M. Hatton left this morning to visit friends in Red Oak, Iowa.

Mrs. D. H. Reichard leaves today for a fortnight’s stay in Mt. Carroll, Ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. King and family will go to Okoboji soon for the summer.

Little Gene Adelman leaves Monday for a visit with her aunt in Sioux City.

Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Sweeney are visiting their daughter in Yonkers, N. Y.

Mrs. Chas. Hewitt and children will go to the lakes soon to spend the summer.

Mr. Ben Eibert is home from Princeton, where he has been attending school.

Mrs. Loomis left this morning to visit her sister, Mrs. C. D. Duke, in Red Oak, Iowa.

John A. Fairall is home from Iowa City, where he has been studying dentistry.

Miss Louise Morrison and Rex Charles Morrison of Chicago are expected in the city next week.

Mr. R. B. Jameson and Miss Pauline have gone to Boone to visit Mrs. Eva Jameson-Carter.

Mrs. George Parker and Mrs. Stevens of Chicago are visiting Mrs. Thos. O’Dea of East Fifth street.

Miss Blanch Spinney will enter the junior year of Lasell at Auburndale, Mass., the coming fall.

Mrs. Edna Stradley-Whipp of Chicago is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baker of Eleventh street.

Professor Dana C. Johnson of Highland Park college delivered the commencement address at Story City last evening.

Samuel B. Howard and President Charles Carleton of Bowham, Texas, are guests of Chancellor and Mrs. Bayard Craig.  Professor Carleton is president of the Carleton college for ladies.
