The Dead of the Day - Edward Vaughn
Died, June 15 at 3 a.m. at the county poor farm, Edward
Vaughn, in is 71st year. He was an old settler in Polk county,
coming here in an early day. He settled out southwest of the city
where he followed farming for a good many years. He lost his
first wife while on the farm. After a time he married Mrs.
Carroll, with whom he lived hapily until six years ago, when she,
too, was taken from him by death.
He leaves three children: One son, Ed Vaughn, who is employed by
the Utica clothing house; a daughter, Mrs. Lew Bradshaw, and Mrs.
Nellie Noel, who now resides in Indianola.
Mr. Vaughn was buried this morning at 8:30 o'clock from Mr.
Selover's undertaking rooms, East Sixth and Grand avenue.
Sales Sentenced
Judge Holmes this afternoon senticed Thomas Sales to
three months in the penitentiary and fined him $10. The sentence
was light owing to mitigating circumstances.
