Administrators Notice. Notice is hereby given to
all persons interested, that on the 19th day of February A.D.
1879, the undersigned was appointed by the Circuit Court of Polk
County, Iowa, Administratrix of the estate of Jarade Groves,
deceased, late of said county. All persons indebted to said
estate will make payment to the undersigned and those having
claims against the same will present them, legally authenticated,
to said Court for allowance. Hannah Groves, Administratrix.
From Peoria City -- Feb. 25th
Peoria City is in a flourishing condition and we are looking for
better thimes which will undoubtedly soon come.
Married, in Washington tp., Polk county, two miles west of Peoria
City, on Thursday, Feb. 20th, 1879, Miss Hattie Tilton and Mr.
W.M. Good. Rev. E.C. Boaz officiating.
Mr. Chas Barr, formerly of Nebraska, is stopping in this place
with his brother.
C.B. Merrihew, tp. assessor, began his duties about the first of
this month. He is a man well calculated for the business.
Born, Feb. 20th, 1879, a son to Mrs. and Mr. James Hall, living
1/2 a mile south of this town.
A.C. Randall has moved into the store room of Alex. Laugherty,
where he will remain until he repairs the store on the corner of
Main and John street.
H.H. Youst has gone to Pennsylvania to remain till April.
George Cook, hotel keeper, has bought a house and two lots on
Second, between Main and Logan streets, where he will keep a
hotel.
Ralph Gibson has bought a 1/4 section of land in Guthrie county.
Z.H. Pearson will work on Albert Armstrong's farm this summer.
Go to F.W. Rumbaugh's for your cigars and tobacco.
Newbold Armstrong had a team to run away with him the other
night, and it demolished a buggy wheel for John Sash. The cause
of the runaway was Mr. A. had his lady with him, tied the lines
to the dash board, forgot the team, and away they rean. The
operation cost the young man about $7.
The wife of Mr. S.G. Ozman died of lung fever on Friday, Feb.
21st, 1879.
Elder Neal is holding meetings at the Kompf school-house. A very
general interest is manifested.
Kirkman & Dick, coal prospectors, have drilled to the depth
of 80 feet, and have struck a small vein of coal on the farm of
Dan Page.
Lee Donnell has a fine stock of groceries, dry goods, boots,
shoes, hats, caps and everything kept in a general store. Call
and examine them and see the low prices.
From Saylor -- Feb. 24th
Mr. Littles, the wagon maker in this place, is about to leave.
This is one of the best openings in this county for a good
workman.
I hope some good physician who takes the News will come and
locate in Saylorville.
Sup't Koons visited our schools last week and made some excellent
and well-timed remarks to the pupils.
The Blue Ribbon Club is prospering beyond the most sanguine
expectations -- 15 joined last evening.
From Camp -- Feb. 25th
The Sabbath-school in district No. 1 did not close with last
Sabbath, as was expected. Mr. H.P. Thompson, the superintendent,
will not move away as soon as he intended, so the school will
continue a while longer.
T.G. Montgomery went west to buy cattle last week, but failed to
find any to suit him, and is back again in Camp.
Grandmother Callender, an old lady 70 years old, saved, spun and
knit out of her own hair a tidy large enough to cover a good
sized stand and has got enough on her head yet for looks and
comfort. She did not cut it off, but saved it from time to time
as she combed it out.
