DEATH CLAIMS MRS. BLECKER IN ARKANSAS


Relatives residing in Merrill have received word of the death of Mrs. Ray Blecker, who passed away at her home in Mountain Home, Ark., August 9, following an operation. Mr. and Mrs. Blecker were residents of Plymouth County for a number of years.

Surviving are her husband, Ray Blecker, two children, Robert and Marilyn. One daughter preceded her in death. Also one sister of New York and three brothers.

Burial was in the Mountain Home cemetery.

~Miss Leila Huebsch of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, is spending a short vacation in the home of her mother, Mrs. J. C. Huebsch, who has been in poor health for a long time and is not as well of late.

WIFE BEATER SENTENCED
Herman Hatting of Remsen was brought to LeMars Tuesday in charge of an officer and turned over to the custody of Sheriff Frank Scholer. Hatting was sentenced by Remsen justice to serve thirty days in the county jail on a charge of assaulting his wife.

REMSEN BANKER TAKES A BRIDE
John Gordon and Florence Davis United in Marriage


In the rectory of St. Augustine Catholic church in Des Moines, Saturday at high noon, was solemnized the marriage of Miss Florence B. Davis of Sioux City, and John Gordon of Remsen. The Rev. F. J. O’Connell, pastor, officiated.

Mrs. Otto R. Besch of Des Moines and Edmund Gordon of Sioux City, brother of the bridegroom, were the attendants. A wedding luncheon was served in the Grace Ransome tearoom for a few intimate friends.

The bride is the daughter of Harry C. Davis and the groom is the son of Mrs. Margaret Gordon, both of Sioux City, where they were born and reared. Mr. Gordon came to Remsen 18 months ago as assistant cashier of the First Trust & Savings Bank.

After a two weeks honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon will return to Remsen and reside permanently.

JAMES CLARK NAMED NEW COURT REPORTER

James Clark, son of Mrs. Iona Clark of LeMars, has been appointed Court Reporter to Judge R. G. Rodman starting work September 1.

Mr. Clark graduated from LeMars high school in 1930. While in school he achieved high records in the commercial department and represented LeMars in many contests. After graduation he worked in the welfare office in the court house before going to Chicago where he entered a school of court reporting instruction.

Mr. Clark is well known in LeMars and is welcomed back here by his many friends. He will succeed S. E. Bigelow, who has served some time under Judge Rodman.

GERALD HEMPHILL WEDS RUTH FOX IN DES MOINES
Pretty Wedding Takes Place Saturday Afternoon At Home of Friends
Will Live In LeMars
Young Couple Are Widely Known and Popular


The home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kaupp, 1205 Clinton street, Des Moines,
was the scene of a pretty wedding Saturday afternoon, August 27, when Gerald
D. Hemphill, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Hemphill, of Merrill, and Miss Ruth Fox,
daughter of Mrs. Madge Raber of LeMars, were united in marriage. The
ceremony which took place at 5 o'clock was witnessed by a few relatives and
intimate friends. Rev. Homer E. Watkins officiated at the marriage service,
the single ring ceremony being choice of the contracting parties. The
service took place before a floral altar in front of the spacious fire
place, banked with white daisies, yellow roses, cosmos and phlox, and ferns,
the colors being chosen by the bride.

The bride looked charming in a black and white sheer dress with black
accessories and corsage bouquet of white gardenia. Her sister, Miss Marianne
Fox, was bridesmaid and wore a pretty dress of navy blue taffeta with blue
accessories to match and a corsage bouquet of yellow and white
chrysanthemums. The bridegroom was squired by Kenneth Kaupp, as bestman.

Following the ceremony a four course dinner was served in the Kaupp home and
a reception held in the evening. Among guests at the wedding were Miss
Millicent Bourne and Miss Marianne Fox of LeMars, Misses Doris Bourne,
Marion Duster, Violet Jones, Mildred Phipps, of Des Moines.

YOUNG COUPLE POPULAR

The bride is a popular and well known LeMars girl and graduated from the
LeMars High School and was employed at the court house here for several
years before obtaining a position in the sales tax department of the state
board of assessment and review in Des Moines.

The bridegroom is equally popular in a large circle of friends. He is
employed as head of the old age pension board at the court house.

The young couple will make their home in LeMars.
