Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Nanninga motored to Ireton on Sunday and visited
relatives.

Mrs. Orville Cooper is a medical patient at the Sacred Heart hospital in
LeMars.

Mr. and Mrs. John Cooney, of Glenwood, Iowa, spent Sunday visiting relatives
here.

Mrs. A. Jeffers was a dinner guest of Miss Cora Hughes in LeMars on
Decoration Day.

Miss Ruby Null, an honor graduate of LeMars High School received a Western
Union college scholarship.

John Evan Anstine, who is attending an aviation school at Lincoln, Neb.,
arrived home for a visit Tuesday.

Miss Martha Cook went to Hudson, S.D., on Monday to spend a few days with
her niece, Mrs. Walter Woodhouse.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McArthur and sons, Ronald and Gordon, of LeMars visited
Memorial Day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. McArthur.
Mrs. Marion Chapman and baby daughter, Merry Eileen, returned home on
Wednesday from the Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars.

Little Dorine Woodhouse spent the week end at the home of her grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Becker, returning home on Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Chapman, sons, Robert and Roland, daughters, Kathleen and
Lorraine, spent Sunday afternoon at the Grant Chapman home.

Miss Constance Chapman, who is a teacher in the high school at Carlsbad, New
Mexico, arrived home last week to spend her summer vacation.

Mr. and Mrs. Lige Mars visited in the home of relatives at Canton, S.D., on
Friday. Mr. Mars' father returned with them for an extended visit here.

Mrs. Mary Daugherty, who has been spending the past weeks at the home of her
son, Anthony Daugherty, of Emerson, Neb., returned home Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Homer Becker, of Waubay, S.D., returned to their home on
Thursday after spending a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Becker.

Mr. and Mrs. Vern Burris, Verna and Eldon Burris and Mrs. C. J. Darville
attended the graduation of Ruth McArthur from the LeMars high school on
Friday.

Mrs. Ed Rediske and daughter, Joan, of Sioux City, Mrs. Walter Jenkins and
daughters, Charlotte and Marcella, were guests of Mrs. Kenneth Rees on
Friday afternoon.

Lyle, Wilbert, Lawrence, Raymond, Leland and Carolyn Gatzke, of Centerville,
S.D., were Sunday dinner guests of their brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Oscar Gatzke.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Null and family and Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Nanninga and
family attended a family reunion held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Alberts, near Struble, on Monday.

Mrs. Grant Chapman has been ill the past week but is some better at this
time. Mrs. Jesse Kennedy, of Vermillion, S.D., and Miss Lucile March of
Sioux City called at her home on Monday.

Miss Ann Buss, of Darlington, Wisconsin, arrived last week to attend the
graduation of her niece, Miss Elaine Buss, from the LeMars high school. She
will visit relatives in this vicinity for a few weeks.

Relatives here received word of the marriage of Miss Pearl Reeves to Edward
Kurtz, of Lakin, Kansas, which took place in Omaha on February 21, 1937.
Mrs. Kurtz is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Reeves and was reared in this
community.

A church night social will be held in the community hall on Friday, June 11.
The Volunteer class will be hosts and an amateur program will be given. The
Ladies Aid are planning an ice cream social to be held on June 18.

Mrs. Thos. Batho, Sr. and Miss Muriel Batho, of Canton, S.D., and Jack
Batho, of Spencer, arrived here Monday morning to attend the graduation
exercises at Western Union college. Rev. Thomas Batho received his Bachelor
of Arts degree from the college at that time.

A joint meeting of the Ladies Aid and Women's Home Missionary society was
held at the home of Mrs. Albert Hawkins on Tuesday. Each society held a
business meeting after which a program of poems and musical selections were
enjoyed. Refreshments were served in closing.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Becker and Mrs. Frank Becker were called to Hudson, S.D.,
on Friday afternoon owing to the serious illness of Walter Woodhouse. Mr.
Woodhouse was operated upon for appendicitis Friday evening and is making a
satisfactory recovery.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Klaschen entertained Chicago relatives over the week end.

Friends and relatives helped to remind John Klaschen of his birthday Tuesday
evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hettwer, of LeMars, were Sunday visitors in the Robert
Guttner home.

Miss Elaine Dawson had as her guests, Gloria Heesch and Bonnie Milton, at
the picnic Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Sanow and son, Larry, went to Yankton, Sunday, to visit
with Mrs. Sanow's father.

Mrs. Marlin Parcel, of Sioux City, was home to visit with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Will Bloom, last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jans and son, Marvin, went to Marcus to help celebrate
Margaret Schmeling's birthday.

A picnic was given in the LeMars park by the children of the Henry township
No. 5, where Miss Gladys Parry is teaching. About fifty people were present.

Miss Roma Koch, who has been employed in Sioux City, came to Remsen for the
graduation exercises where her sister, Esther, was one of the eleven
graduates.

Miss Caroline Berding, who has been working in Spencer, was home to visit
her parents and sister, Rose Marie, before going to the lakes where she will
now be employed.

Joe Burkee, who went to the Iowa State Hospital in Iowa City, underwent an
operation early Thursday morning. Friends here are glad to hear that he is
getting along as well as can be expected.

Mrs. J. W. Paulin and Mrs. H. A. Mulford visited Wednesday in Pierson with
Mrs. V. D. Wells.

Clyde Ridenour arrived home Saturday from Algona, where he has been teaching
the past year.

C. J. Sherwood and son, Russell, were Monday morning visitors in the Charles
Sherwood home near Marcus.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark and children, of Kingsley, were Sunday dinner
guests in the E. E. Ridenour home.

Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Paulin and son, of Union, and Mrs. H. A. Mulford and
children, of Henry, spent Sunday in the parental, J. W. Paulin, home.

Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Ridenour and daughter, Gean, visited in the Harry Cameron
home in Union and attended baccalaureate at Union Consolidated.

Royce Herrill of Lawton has been visiting several days in this vicinity,
left Saturday for the Ivan Oleson home, near Lawton, where he has made his
home the last year.

Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Handley and children attended a family dinner Wednesday
held in the home of Mrs. Handley's grandmother, Mrs. Mary Keck, in Washta.
The honored guest was Miss Helen Kirkpatrick, who is leaving next Saturday
for West Plains, Mo.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jackson, of Beaver City, Neb., former resident of Garfield
township, are visiting in the home of the latter's father, M. C. Chinn.
They report that it is very dry in western Nebraska and lots of dust storms.

C. J. Sherwood received a message Tuesday that his brother, Asa, had passed
away in a hospital in Chicago. Mr. Sherwood had been ailing for many months
and had spent the winter with his brother, C. J., and a few weeks ago went
to the Veterans Hospital in Chicago.

POPULAR REMSEN GIRL MARRIED IN ALBUQUERQUE

Remsen Bell-Enterprise: The marriage of Miss Marguerite Schultz, of Remsen,
and Walter H. Tegeler, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was solemnized last
Friday in Sante Fe.

The couple was unattended. The ceremony was performed by Archbishop Gerken
of Sante Fe, in his private chapel.

The bride wore a white silk crepe cape suit with white accessories and wore
a corsage of red sweet peas and roses.

After the ceremony the couple had breakfast with the archbishop, and later
went on a brief honeymoon.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Schultz, of Remsen, and is
one of the community's most popular young women. She was born in Remsen and
attended St. Mary's school, graduating from the high school department
several years ago. Later she attended Boyles Business college in Omaha, and
after leaving this institution accepted a position with the Remsen office of
the West Iowa Telephone company, first as an operator and in recent years as
a bookkeeper. She was with the company for nine and one-half years. The
bride is an outstanding young woman who enjoys the highest esteem of her
many acquaintances in this community, and all wish her many happy years of
wedded life.

The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tegeler, of Dryersville, Iowa. He
is a graduate of the Dryersville high school and attended Iowa State college

Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson and daughter, Alice, and grandsons, Randall and
Keith Renken, of Lincoln, Neb., are visiting relatives here.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Osterbuhr and son, Dennis, who spent several days in the
Herb Morris home, near Akron, have returned to their home near Brunsville.

Miss Catherine Burns, who underwent an operation, has returned to the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Hickey, of Sioux City, and is getting along nicely.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ommen, Jr., and daughter, Arlene, returned to their home
in Cherokee on Monday after visiting with their parents in Grant township.

A large number attended the wedding dance given at Brunsville on June 8 by
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klemme, who were recently married. Congratulations and
best wishes is extended to them.

The Grant Township Lutheran League met in the school house on Sunday evening
with Miss Frances entertaining. A large crowd was present. A number of new
members were added to the society.

John Osborne and Will Utech enjoyed a fishing trip at the Iowa lakes
Tuesday.

Mrs. Amelia Lancaster spent last week at the home of Mrs. John Lancaster,
Jr., of LeMars.

Mr. and Mrs. Irving McArthur, of Sioux City, were weekend guests at the
Harvey Buss home.

Miss Lois Osborne left on Monday for a visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Will Eylers, in Leeds.

Miss Mary Ann Buss, of Darlington, Wisconsin, is guest this week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Buss.

Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Lancaster were guests on Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Efford Moser east of LeMars.

Harold Rees, who is working near Pipestone, Minn., spent the weekend with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Rees.

The Epworth League members will hold a picnic Tuesday, June 15, at the new
recreation park in LeMars. All young people are invited to be present.

Mrs. Thos. Batho, Sr., and Miss Muriel Batho are spending this week at the
home of Rev. Thos. Batho. They plan to establish a permanent residence in
Spencer, Iowa.

Rev. Metcalf, of Sioux City, was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
Lancaster on Tuesday. He also called at the Susan Rayburn home. Rev.
Metcalf was pastor in Seney a few years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Connor entertained on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Byron Morrison
and Vernon Morrison, of Salem, S.D., and Mrs. Gertrude Morrison, Mrs.
Conner's mother, who remained for a visit here.

Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Woerner, of Onawa, visited Thursday at the home of their
daughter, Mrs. Thos. Batho, Rev. and Mrs. B. M. Watson, of Onawa, called at
the parsonage on Thursday. Rev. Watson was formerly pastor in Seney.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Null, Alberta and Jean Null motored to Gann Valley,
Minn., on Friday and visited at the N. J. Delperdang home, returning home
Sunday evening. Gracie Null, who is spending the summer with an aunt in
Beresford, S.D., went with them.

Relatives here received news that a number of good neighbors gathered at the
Walter Woodhouse farm, near Hudson, S.D., and plowed, dragged and planted a
twenty-acre field into corn for him. Mr. Woodhouse, who formerly lived in
this community, is in the Hudson hospital recovering from a recent
appendicitis operation.

A family reunion in the form of a picnic was held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Penning on Decoration Day. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. I.
L. Demaray and daughters, Eunice and Ruth, of Mitchell, S.D.; Mrs. Mamie
Penning and sons, Clarence and Harold, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Penning and sons,
Bobby, Billy and Jimmy, and Mrs. G. Redmond, all of Pipestone, Minn.; Miss
Helen Boer, of Wentworth, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. John Winkle, of Sanborn, Iowa;
Miss Agnes Winkle, of Sibley, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Keizer and Ethel and
Louis Keizer, of Alton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Kennedy, son, Dennis, and
daughter, Doris, and Vernon Penning, of Hawarden; Mr. and Mrs. Will Penning
and daughter, Rose, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Penning and son, Wendell, of LeMars;

Marie Woomer Becomes Bride of Peter Huls
Popular LeMars Young Couple Are United In Marriage Wednesday Morning

The home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Woomer, 200 Fourth Avenue NW., was the scene
of a pretty wedding Wednesday morning, when their daughter, Marie, was
united in marriage with Peter Huls, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Huls, of
Washington township. The ceremony took place at 10:30 in the presence of a
few relatives and friends. Rev. J.R. Tumbleson officiated at the service,
using the double ring ceremony. The bride was attired in a dress of rose
lace, cut ankle length with accessories to match and carried a bouquet of
beautiful tea roses. Her bridesmaid, Miss Leona Reemts, wore a pretty dress
of light blue crepe and carried a bouquet of white sweet peas and roses.
Floyd Laughton was groomsman.

Following the service a dinner was served to the eighteen guests. The home
was prettily decorated with summer flowers, pink and white being the
predominant colors.

The bride is a graduate of the LeMars High School and later attended
Teachers College at Cedar Falls. The young people are both well known and
popular in the younger set. The groom has been engaged in farming. The
young people will make their home in LeMars.

SERIOUSLY INJURED AT WORK ON STACK
Dell Collins Suffers Broken Wrist; Cracked Kneecaps


Dell Collins, employed with the Pech Foundry, was badly injured Wednesday
morning in a fall from a smoke stack, he was erecting on a building at the
LeMars Gas company plant.

While at work on the stack he slipped and fell and suffered a fracture of
the right wrist and severe injuries to the patella in both knees.

Mr. Collins was conveyed to the Sacred Heart hospital, where he was reported
yesterday to be progressing favorably.

MERRILL FAMILY HOLD SEVENTH ANNUAL REUNION
Bogenriefs From Four States Assemble At Peal of Century Old Bell

A special from Merrill says: One hundred nine members of the Bogenrief
family from four states gathered at the B. A. Bogenrief farm home Sunday,
June 13, [1937] for their seventh annual reunion. Officers elected for the
coming year are George Bogenrief, DesMoines, president; B. A. Bogenrief,
Merrill, vice-president; Walter Bogenrief, Sioux City, secretary. Next
year's meeting will be in Sioux Falls, S.D., in June.

Features of the afternoon following a bountiful dinner were the appearance
of a dozen members of the family, who together form a band, the ringing of
the 102 year old dinner bell on the home place and reminiscing by the six
brothers, Aaron Gerling, J. O., J. E., S. A., D. O., and W. O. Bogenrief.
The name Bogenrief is synonymous with music and has been for several
generations. The old time dinner bell was brought from Lancaster, Pa.,
having been given to Sam Bogenrief in 1835, and is a family heirloom.

AT THE OLD HOMESTEAD

This year's gathering was held at the farm home where Mr. and Mrs. W. O.
Bogenrief spent the first forty years of their married life until they
retired to town about ten years ago. Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Bogenrief
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year with a large group of
the relatives in attendance.

Ray Wilson, of Sioux City, and J. W. Scothorn, of Storm Lake, were arrested
by Traffic Officer Joe Sutton on speeding charges, and paid the usual fine.

The Seney Ladies Aid society will hold an ice cream social Friday evening,
June 18, at the hall.

Anthony Bamberg and "Bruiser" Rollinger left Thursday morning for Denver,
Colo., where they plan to look for work.

Mrs. John Schueller, daughter, Lorraine, and son, Jay, of Fulda, Minn.,
spent Wednesday in the N. C. Schueller home.

Nick Wiltgen, arrested last week on a charge of intoxication and disturbing
the peace, appeared before Mayor Hoorneman Wednesday evening and paid a fine
of $15 and costs.

The army reserve officers of this section will hold their annual field
maneuvers next Sunday, starting from a point near Brunsville in the morning
and winding up at the CCC camp in Stone Park for dinner. J. G. Koenig and
R. S. Bowers, LeMars reserve officers, will be among the party of fifty.
Col. Robert P. Glassburn, U.S. Army, stationed at Sioux City, will be in
charge of the maneuvers.

Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Kennedy and children, of Hawarden, visited Friday at
the Albert Penning home.

Mrs. C. F. Naninga spent last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Clarence Alberts, who has been ill.

Mrs. John Lancaster and son, Donald, of LeMars, visited Wednesday at the
home of Mrs. Susan Rayburn.

Mrs. Will Hennrich and Mrs. Pauline Detloff, of LeMars, visited at the home
of Mrs. Susan Rayburn, Sunday.

Mrs. Orville Cooper, who has been a medical patient at the Sacred Heart
hospital in LeMars was able to return to her home last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Walker Bushby and family, of Ireton, were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. H. Wills, Sunday. They also visited the C. E. Ewin home.

Mrs. J. H. Walkup, Evan Anstine, Mrs. Dwight Riter and son, Russell, motored
to Eldora, Iowa, Friday, where they visited Willard Anstine.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Riter, Mrs. Will Henrich and Mrs. Pauline Detloff, of
LeMars, attended the Children's Day exercises held at the Seney church
Sunday.

The Children's Day program was given at the Seney church on Sunday morning
with a large attendance. Several children received the sacrament of
baptism.

Edwin Lancaster, a student at the state university at Iowa City for the past
year, is spending a vacation at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J.
Lancaster.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Becker, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Becker and sons, Bobby and
Jerry, visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Woodhouse, of
Hudson, S.D.

Miss Marion McDougall, who has been attending school at Yankton, S.D.,
arrived home last week to spend the summer at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. McDougall.

Mr. and Mrs. George Osborne, Billy and Georgine Osborne, visited Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Will Eylers, of Leeds. Miss Lois Osborne who had spent the
past week visiting there returned wit them.

Mr. and Mrs. Walker Bushby, of Ireton, called at the home Mr. and Mrs. H.
Wills on Tuesday. Frances and Vernon Ewin who have been visiting at the
Bushby home, returned with them to their home here.

About thirty-five members of the Seney Epworth League enjoyed a picnic at
the new recreation park in LeMars on Tuesday evening. A ball game was a
feature of the evening's entertainment, followed by a wiener roast.

Wesley Lancaster, Tina Mars, Virginia Green and Alberta Null attended the
eighth grade graduating exercises held at the high school auditorium in
LeMars on Tuesday and received their eighth grade diploma. Alberta Null
achieved the honor of second place on the county honor roll.

Blanche and Richard Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Remer, Maxine and Shirley
Remer, Mrs. Lizzie Hawkins and daughter, Harriet, Mrs. Martha Haney, Gene
Haney, Lois, Marjorie and Lawrence Bray and Miss Jeanette Anderson were
members of a group who enjoyed a family picnic at Cleveland park in LeMars
on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Buss, Marion and Earl Buss, and Miss Ann Buss, of
Darlington, Wis., went to Ida Grove on Sunday, where they met the Will Buss
family from Harlan, Iowa, for a family picnic. Miss Ann Buss, who has been
visiting relatives here for a few weeks, went to Harlan and from there will

Roy McArthur arrived home Friday from Ida Grove, and returned to his work at
Holstein on Sunday.

A large and appreciative audience attended the amateur program given here
Thursday night in the community hall as a feature of the church night
social. Vincent Buss, as Eddie Cantor, was master of ceremonies and
introduced persons on the program with fictitious names and places, which
occasioned much merriment. The following program was given: Song, "My
Elsie Shoots 'Em Down" by Marion and Alberta Null (in costume); harmonica
solo, Wesley Utech; solo, "By The Bend of the River," Muriel Batho; boxing
clog, Ruth McArthur and Evelyn Lancaster; violin and guitar music, Art and
Bill Berkenpas; violin solo, Henry Berkenpas; piano solo, Marion Buss; play,
"Gone With The Wind"; debate, resolved that Seney needs a fire department,
Mrs. Roy McArthur, Rev. and Mrs. T. C. Batho. A prize of a large chocolate
cake was given to the winning act on the program which was determined by the
applause of the audience, and won by Art and Bill Berkenpas as the "Cowboy
Duo." Pie a-ala-mode was served by members of the Volunteer Sunday school
class, who sponsored the evening's entertainment.

Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Stafford and daughter, of Alton, were guests at the C. C.
Cooper home Sunday.

Mrs. A. L. Craik, Mrs. Wm. Marineau and Ellan Raeid were guests at the J. P.
Riter home at Hawarden Friday.

Mrs. Hattie Campbell and Miss Jessie Carder, of Loveland, Colo., spent
Thursday in this community with friends.

Mrs. R. S. Miller and Mrs. J. R. Karr motored to Sioux City June 10 to
attend the meeting of interstate farm women.

Helen Johnson, who submitted to an operation for appendicitis at a hospital
in Sioux City, is able to come home this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Levens and Mrs. M. Seffons returned to their home at
Alamosa, Colo., following a trip here called by the sickness and subsequent
death of their mother, Mrs. T. C. Shoemaker.

Lawrence Sanow, of LeMars, is a visitor in the home of his uncle and aunt,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sanow.

Joe Burke, who has been in the Iowa state hospital for three weeks, has
returned to his friends on Thursday and is making his home with Mr. and Mrs.
Will Dawson.

Mrs. Will Sanow received word Monday, telling her of the death of her niece,
who was born last July. The baby is the daughter of Mrs. Dawson's brother,
Claus Johnson, of Duluth, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Dawson left Monday.

Dick Kluver, with his friends and relatives, celebrated his birthday in his
home Wednesday evening. The men played solo pinochle and pitch, while the
ladies played five hundred. High and travelers prize went to Mrs. Carl
Klaschen and low prize went to Mrs. Meta Schut. At the close of the evening
a delicious luncheon was served.

Joe Grage, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Grage and son, Gerald, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Heitman, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hansen and son, Merlin, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert
Rolling and son, Larry, and Mrs. Will Groth and baby drove to Sioux Falls,
S.D., Saturday to attend the thirtieth wedding anniversary of their cousins,
Mr. and Mrs. John Jocks.

The ladies of this community gave a shower for Mrs. Claire Wingert in the
home of Mrs. Gus Krekow Thursday afternoon. The ladies played five hundred
at five tables. High prize went to Mrs. Frank Hewicker, while low went to
Mrs. Meta Schut. At 4 o'clock an inviting luncheon was served with Mrs. Gus
Krekow and Mrs. Henry Berding as hostesses. Mrs. Wingert received many
beautiful and useful gifts.

SEVEN SISTERS AND FAMILIES HOLD REUNION

A reunion of the Beck sisters, who formerly resided at LeMars, was held at
the Rock Rapids state park. Of the nine sisters seven were present with
their families. A bounteous dinner was served at noon. After an afternoon
spent in visiting the guests departed for their homes. The occasion was
also the nineteenth wedding anniversary of the youngest sister, Mrs. Theo.
Wiebersch.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Middaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Middaugh
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Paleschak and son, of Worthington, Minn.; Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Strub, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Thill and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Forette and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Will Stroub, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Wuenth

Sagness at Rock Rapids.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wingert, of Franklin Grove, Ill., visited last week with
Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Wingert.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bleil and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bleil and
son attended a picnic at the C. J. Sherwood home, Sunday.

Henry and Garfield 4-H girls held a meeting at the Avery Thompson home
Monday. Miss Pearl Sims, H.D.A., was present to make plans for Rally Day to
be held June 29.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gatzke motored to Cherokee on Saturday to visit

Jack Daugherty and son, John, spent Wednesday at the Iowa lakes fishing.

C. E. Moore spent last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Moore, of
Marcus.

Miss Elizabeth Nixon, of Sioux City, is visiting at the home of her sister,
Mrs. Floyd Becker.

Vernon Penning, of Hawarden, was a weekend guest at the home of his mother,
Mrs. Lulu Penning.

Mrs. A. Jeffers was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hendrickson,
of Alton, on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Baker attended the funeral of Mrs. H. W. Erlick in Sioux
City on Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer DeRaad and Mr. and Mrs. Van Gelder spent the week end
fishing at the Iowa lakes.

Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Daugherty, of Emerson, Nebraska, were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. John Daugherty on Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Wells and family, of Ireton, were guests Sunday at the C. F.
Nanninga and Judson McDougall homes.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Groth, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, spent last week at the
home of Mrs. Groth's sister, Mrs. Albert Hawkins.

Lincoln Rayburn , of LeMars, and his daughter, Mrs. Frank Yoch, of
Minnesota, called Thursday at the Susan Rayburn home.

Mrs. Marshall Rees and daughters, Donna and Marilyn, Mrs. Albert Penning and
Mrs. Lena Rees visited Monday at that Pete Keizer home in Alton.

Miss Marie Wilson, of Elgin, Nebraska, arrived Tuesday and spent the week
visiting at the homes of Marion Buss, Ruth McArthur and Blanche Hawkins.

Jean Null, who is ill with pneumonia, is improving. She is a patient in the
Hawarden Hospital under the care of her uncle, who is a physician.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Batho, and son, Robert, motored to Spencer. Last
Thursday, where they visited Mr. Batho's mother and sister, Mrs. Thos.
Batho, Sr., and Miss Muriel Batho.

Relatives here received word that Walter Woodhouse, who has been recovering
from a recent operation in the hospital at Hudson, South Dakota, was able to
return to his home last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hawkins went to Sioux City on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs.
Edwin Groth, of Minneapolis, who have been guests in the Hawkins home, went
with them to visit relatives.

Mrs. Ben Cooper, of Elgin, Nebraska, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Carey, of the
Ewing, Nebraska, were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elam Chapman and
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cooper last week.

Mrs. Jay Donlin, Esther and Donald Donlin, of Jefferson, South Dakota, spent
last week at the home of Mrs. Donlin's mother, Mrs. Martha Cook. Mr. and
Mrs. John Arthur Cook took them back to their home on Sunday.

Reverend Thomas Batho laughed on Monday for Indianola, Iowa, where he will
attend a ministerial school for two weeks. Mrs. Thomas Batho and son,
Robert, accompanied him as far as Onawa, where they will visit with
relatives.

A family picnic was held at the Roy Mc Arthur home Sunday. Of those present
were: Mr. Mrs. Melvin McArthur and son of LeMars; Mr. and Mrs. Irving
McArthur and Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Darville, of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. A.
McArthur and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Buss and son, Stanley. Mr. and Mrs. C. J.
Darville remained for few weeks visit at the Roy McArthur and Harvey Buss
homes.

The Women's Home Missionary Society met on Wednesday with a large and
attendance. Election of officers was held. The following officers being
elected: President, Mrs. D. F. Mc Arthur; vice president, Mrs. Albert
Hawkins; Secretary, Mrs. Bert Criswell; treasurer, Mrs. George Osborne;
supply secretaries, Mrs. Harry Buss, Mrs. C.W. Reeves; spiritual life, Mrs.
T. C. Batho; mite box secretary, Mrs. Marshall Rees; Lenten secretary, Mrs.
Roy Mc Arthur; thank offering, Mrs. Earl Chapman; missionary education, Mrs.
Will Hawkins. After the business meeting, a delicious lunch and was served
by the hostess. Visiting guests included Mrs. Lena Rees, Mrs. Harvey Buss,
and Mrs. Edwin Groth, of Minneapolis.

Mr. Hulse has made seven gravel boxes for the haulers.

The ladies aid is meeting Thursday with Mrs. Mabel Lilly.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hawks, June 13, 1937.

The ladies of the Guild met with Mrs. Cecil Harrington Thursday.

Eileen Gant, of Geddes, S.D., was down last week visiting relatives.

Kenneth Rollins, of Bedford, Iowa, is visiting his parents south of town. .

Harold Brownawell, of Sterling, North Dakota, spent the weekend in
Westfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Myron Olson have moved with their trailer to Struble, where Mr.
Olson is hauling gravel.

A senior and junior Christian endeavors went to River Sioux for a roller
skating party on Wednesday.

Visitors in the N. R. Knapp home were Mrs. Knapp's sister, Miss Hasbrook and
Earl Harrington, of LeMars.

Mrs. Arch Lilly submitted to a tonsil operation at the Akron Hospital on
Saturday. She was brought home Sunday afternoon.

Russell Hawks is moving to Sioux City, where he has secured a position.

Ted McDougall visited his brother in LeMars Friday.

Mrs. Nordman's father and sister, of Charles city, Iowa, visited her. Mrs.
Nordman is recovering from the effects of an automobile accident.

Arnold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hummel, held a birthday party on Thursday
at the home of his appearance. Seven little folks enjoyed a good time.

Mrs. Hough complimented her two sisters, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Streeter, who
are visiting her by giving a card party on Wednesday. Bridge was played at
four tables and refreshments served.
