RESIDENT 60 YEARS FUNERAL LAST SATURDAY

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Bertha Petersen of
Lincoln township, who passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 2, 1933. Mrs.
Petersen was one of the early pioneers of Plymouth county, having lived here
for 60 years. Mrs. Petersen was highly respected by a multitude of friends
who regret her passing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was
a conscientious worker for her church and religious principals.

Mrs. Bertha Petersen nee Hormel was born on October 20, 1857, in Hessia,
Germany. At the age of ten she emigrated to America with her parents and
very shortly after the Hormel family had set foot on American soil they came
to Plymouth County. The former Hormel farm is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Muecke.

The deceased was united in Holy marriage with Mr. Frank Petersen in the year
1876. This union was blessed with six children, two sons and four daughters.
The daughters preceded both parents in death, namely Elizabeth, age ten;
Emma, age nine; Selma, age 2 weeks, and Carrie, later Mrs. Ed Long at the
age of 31 years. Her husband was taken from her side in February, 1923.

Generally speaking, the deceased was in good health and her sudden demise
was a telling shock to her relatives and her neighbors and friends. She
passed away last Thursday at 7:00 a.m., her death being caused by apoplexy.

She leaves to mourn her sudden departure two sons, John Petersen and Albert
Petersen, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Petersen, one son-in-law, Ed Long, 9
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Fred Rommel of
Wenatchee, Washington, and many other relatives and friends. She attained
the age of 75 years, 3 months and 12 days.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln township,
with burial in the church cemetery.
