CAUSED ITS DEATH
An Infant Swallows a Number of Pills
Which Were Accidentally Left Lying Around

Death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moir residing on
Eagle street, under particularly distressing circumstances on Friday
afternoon.  Their baby boy aged nine months old got hold of a quantity
of pills which had been left lying around and swallowed some of them,
how many is not known.  Indeed at first it was not known that he had
swallowed any of them.  The little fellow had something to eat after
that and along in the afternoon was seized with violent convulsions and
died inside an hour.  Dr. Mammen was called in but medical skill was of
no avail by that stage to overcome the effect of the dose the child had
consumed.
The pills were some which Mr. Moir had been taking for stomach
trouble.
Mr. and Mrs. Moir are heartbroken over the loss of their little
boy.  He was their only child and was a bright and winsome little fellow
of remarkable beauty.
The funeral was held on Sunday at the house.
[Transcriber's Note--This child's name was Robert R. Moir.  His date of death
calculates to June 8 in his obit; his death record gives the date of
death as June 6; his burial record as June 7.]

HANDED IN HIS RESIGNATION

I. S. Small handed in his resignation as street commissioner and action will
be taken on it tomorrow evening.  His action was caused by friction between
himself and Alderman Schaefer, who is chairman of the street committee.

Some interesting developments in the affair may arise at the meeting
tomorrow night.

AIRING THEIR TROUBLES

Mrs. Amsler and the Dingeman families are neighbors and appear to have a
neighborly scrap.  She accuses "the Dingeman boys of abusing and insulting
her."  The matter was heard in the mayor's court this morning and his honor
dismissed the case.

WILL BUILD TO LE MARS

According to the Sioux City Journal the Northwestern will build a line from
Sioux City to LeMars, parallel with the Illinois Central track and an
extension is to be built from Kingsley to Merrill.

GAVE AN INTERESTING ENTERTAINMENT

Mrs. Wm. Smiley gave a very interesting report of the proceedings of the
Mother's congress recently held in DesMoines, to a number of ladies at the
Congregational church parlors.  Mrs. Smiley went as a delegate from the
Friday club.  Her report was full of good things and covered the salient
points of the meeting together with lengthy extracts from the principal
address delivered.
