ENGINE JUMPED THE TRACK
Freight Engine No. 13, With Six Drivers, Front Truck and Part of the Wheels
of the Tender Jumps the Track in the Yards
From Tuesday's Daily:
Engine No. 813 on the Illinois Central jumped the track on a switch at Eagle
street near the Plymouth Roller Mills just before noon today. The engine,
under charge of Engineer Chas. Densmore with Jake Peterson as fireman, was
shunting cars on the switch, and when ready to pull out ran on to a place
where the track was imperfect and all the drivers, the front trucks of the
wheels jumped over a foot or more from the track. An effort was made to
pull the engine back upon the track with a traction engine assisted by the
power of the drivers of the disabled locomotive itself, but it proved
useless, and it was found necessary to wait until the arrival of the freight
from the east for assistance. After considerable trouble the machine was
again placed on the track. Freight No. 94 scheduled to go east at 12:30 was
delayed several hours by the accident.
