TERRIBLE ACCIDENT.—Last Saturday evening a team belonging to Mr. Daw of
Sioux county, was killed by the cars. From reports we glean the following:
That Mr. Daw and Robert Reeves were driving along the road about three miles
east of town. They came to a cut through which the cars run, and this they
were obliged to cross. The roads being hard and rough, the wagon made a
great noise, and it was not until the cars were in sight and almost upon
them, that the danger was seen. An effort was made to back the team but
without avail; the engine struck the horses, killing both, demolishing the
wagon, but not injuring the occupants. Mr. Daw has had bad luck of late;
it’s only a few weeks since he lost his wife.
NEW MEMBER.—George W. Chamberlain, Esq., who is the new member of our Board
of Supervisors, succeeding the Hon. William Barrett, member elect of the
State Legislature, has been a resident of Plymouth county for the past six
years, though living in this northwestern country since 1854. Mr.
Chamberlain has been Justice of the Peace in his (Perry) township, and is
now President of our County Agricultural Society. He is a sturdy, hones,
hard working man, and will perform the duties of his new office with ability
and fidelity.
FREDONIA township is having temperance meetings every Tuesday evening, and
they are interesting, too. About forty persons have joined the red ribbon
brigade in Fredonia, and the work is going on.
