John Brennan Dies Today in San Francisco
Son of Marshal and Mrs. M.F. Brennan of Emmetsburg

Just as we go to press Marshal M.F. Brennan tells us that his son John
passed away at San Francisco this morning. he underwent a surgical operation
a short time ago and it proved fatal. His brother, Attorney James Brennan of
San Francisco, is at present in Europe. His older brother, Attorney M.J.
Brennan of Milwaukee, left for San Francisco yesterday but learned of the
death of his brother while on the way. We are not able to give further
particulars at this time. Our many citizens offer heartfelt sympathy to the
sorrowing parents and the other relatives in their sad bereavement.

James Coonan Drowned
Little Son of Mr and Mrs Leland Coonan Meets with Sad Death

A week ago Saturday our many citizens were painfully surprised to learn that
Mr and Mrs Leland Coonan's little son James, aged two, had been drowned. He
had climbed onto the edge of a tub close to a rain barrel and apparently
leaned over the top of the barrel. his head dropped into the water to the
neck and he was unable to recover his balance. He did not fall into the
barrel. When found life was extinct. The sad affair was a great shock to his
parents and relatives.

The funeral was held the following Sunday afternoon. There was a very large
attendance of sympathizing neighbors and friends. Short services were
conducted at St. Thomas' church by Father McNerney. The burial was in St.
John's cemetery. The pall bearers were John Duhigg, Francis McNally, Donald
Hughes, and Merle McCarty.

James was one of the prettiest children in Emmetsburg. He was in every way a
very promising boy and was a favorite with friends of the family. He was as
large and as hearty as most boys of four or five. The sad affair has
occasioned general and profound regret. The taking off was a very severe
blow to his parents and also to his grandparents, who were fondly attached
to him. All have the genuine sympathy of our numerous citizens in their
bereavement.
