TOWN TOPICS of the WEEK
Mr. and Mrs. J. Dartos went to Ortonville, Minnesota, Monday.
H. H. Sample and J. L. McDonald were up from Curlew Saturday.
Thos. Kirby, Jr., went to Peoria, Illinois, a few days ago for a
brief stay.
Miss Gilbride, of Algona, has been visiting numerous relatives in
Emmetsburg since Sunday.
D. H. Glenn was called to Chico, California, Saturday morning by
the serious illness of his mother.
Fred Allum is expected home from Montana today. He comes to see
his mother, who has been quite ill.
We are pleased to note that Dennis Kirby is much better and will
soon be able to be about as usual.
E. F. Jones went to Tacoma, Washington, Friday to see his sister,
Mrs. Matt Kilroy, who is very ill.
M. E. Coulon has rented his fathers farm in Great Oak. Miss
Margaret McNally has taken his place in Mr. Bendas store.
M. J. Walsh will have a sale February 6. He intends spending the
coming year in North Dakota or South Dakota.
Mr. Percy Anderson and Miss N. Beatrice Parks were married at
Ruthven Wednesday, Rev. Chas. P. Oxley officiating.
John Montgomery was down from Graettinger Monday. He is suffering
from rheumatism, but he hopes soon to be rid of it again.
J. A. Kepf was over from Ayrshire Friday. His son Fred went to
Minneapolis in December, where he is working on a street car
line.
Ben Doerning has given up his position in Laughlin & McNallys
saloon and has rented the farm of Mr. Jones, who lives near
Cylinder.
Dan Wynia left for Spokane, Washington, Wednesday with a car of
his live stock and household goods. His family will go in a short
time.
Several days ago M. F. Brennan fell while walking on the icy
ground and fractured one of his ribs. Monday he was compelled to
quit work.
A. W. Pearson, of Mallard, was a business visitor to Emmetsburg
Wednesday. He is one of the bright, observing farmers of the
south part of the county.
Ralph Parrish recently accompanied his brother, John D. Parrish,
home from Waldo, Wisconsin, and will assist him in the ice
business during the coming season.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. M. Bradley Sunday.
The West Bend band will give a concert at Rodman Friday evening.
Friday evening, January 25, there will be a masquerade ball at
Mallard.

Art Wagner has sold his fine standard bred team of horses to
Charles Duhigg, of Ayrshire.
M. T. McEvoy is still quite ill with rheumatism. He has not been
able to move about for some time.
Dan Mugan came up from Jefferson Sunday, to visit his brother, M.
A. Mugan, and to participate in the K. C. initiation.
Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Tipp were down from Graettinger Tuesday
evening of last week attending the reception at the home of Capt.
And Mrs. Soper.
An exchange tells of a baby nine months old who is able to carry
on a conversation with grown people. It is not necessary to
remark that it is a girl.
Charles Flynn came up from Cedar Rapids Sunday to attend the K.
C. initiation. He says he will never lose interest in Emmetsburg.
He likes his new line of work.
A Ft. Dodge Point will be located on the banks of Clear Lake. It
will be laid out and improved by a stock company, of which B. G.
Way and T. A. Potter will be the officers.
H. E. Wagner was up from Des Moines the last of the week. While
here he traded his 21 acre farm south of Ayrshire for a farm in
Boone county. He put his land in at $65 per acre.
T. J. Duffy has been appointed justice of the peace in Freedom
township to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Sim R.
Stedman. Hereafter he will be known as Judge Duffy.
Myron Young, of Plover, who jumped from a windmill tower at his
home near that place Christmas day, with suicidal intent, is
dead. Several of his limbs were badly broken and he suffered a
great deal.
B. F. Reed is making just as good a paper of the Algona Advance
as when he owned it in company with A. D. Clarke. The Democrat
wishes him continued success. He publishes a newsy, interesting
paper.
