Funeral services for Louis Nies, 76, who died Sunday morning as a
result of failing health, were conducted this afternoon at 2:30,
at the Buntz Funeral Home, by the Rev. Peter Jacobs, pastor of
the Congregational church. Pall bearers were John Behm, Oscar
Peterson, Harvey Betz, Ed Almquist, Peter Broff and George
Damewood. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs.
Henry Read, Mrs. Bryan Boatman, Ross Smith and Theo Nordstrom,
who sang "There Is No Disappointment in Heaven",
"We Are Going Down the Valley", and "No Night
There". Flowers were in charge of Mrs. J. C. Riggle, Mrs.
Chas. Croft and Mrs. Harvey Betz. Mr. Nies was born on a farm
near Sidney, May 8, 1860, the son of Peter and Agnes Nies, who
came to Fremont county in the '50's. He was one of a family of 11
children, two of whom died in infancy. Those still living are Dan
Nies of Dinuba, Calif., Mrs. Adam Seipel and Mrs. Henry Wood of
Shenandoah, and Mrs. Frank Hinsdale of Bartlesville, Okla. He
moved from Sidney to a farm one mile south of Shenandoah with his
parents at the age of 22, and was married Jan. 26, 1888 to Nettie
Patterson, and lived on his father's farm nine miles south of
town. Two years later he bought a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of
Shenandoah where he lived 20 years. The family moved to
Shenandoah 24 years ago. Three children were born to them, Mrs.
J. J. Morhain, Floyd Nies and Mrs. Claude Livingston, all of this
vicinity, and all living. Besides his wife and children, he is
survived by the three sisters and one brother above mentioned,
seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
