A prairie fire raged in the eastern part of Baker and Ocheyedan
last Saturday and Sunday, causing great anxiety and considerable
loss. Mr. Dale had three stacks of hay burned. Grant lost six
stacks, Mr. Hartley lost all the hay he had and Mr. Runson had a
setting of grain burned. Mr. Hosheck, being away from home would
have lost his hay had it not been for the prompt assistance of a
neighbor, who left his threshing to guard the hay. Orris Goster
had a very narrow escape, the fire burned through his trees and
within a few feet of his barn, when it stopped of its own accord.
There was nothing to prevent its sweeping his buildings away, as
he knew nothing of the fire, slept soundly through it all.
