News of the District Court
James Bailey has brought an action in divorce against Mildred A. Bailey, alleging in his petition that the defendant has been guilty of cruel and inhuman treatment. The petition states that the defendant was married on April 24, 1919, at Faribault, Minn., and that they lived together until Mar. 1, 1931. Plaintiff asks for a decree of divorce and for judgment for the costs.

Russell L. Boies has brought action against Hazel J. Boies asking court to grant him an absolute divorce form the defendant on grounds of desertion. Plaintiff states in petition that he married defendant May 25, 1915 at Mankato, Minn., and lived together until February 1930.

Madeline Mericle is asking for a decree of divorce from John Mericle on the grounds of desertion. Plaintiff states she married defendant on the 24th of June 1930 and that on the 24th of June 1930 the defendant deserted the plaintiff and has not been seen or heard from since.

Minnie Pauli has brought an action against Rudolph Pauli asking that the court grant her a divorce from the defendant on the grounds of cruel and inhuman treatment and non-support. Plaintiff and defendant were married Dec. 2, 1931, in Jackson, Minn., and the petition states that the plaintiff has not seen the defendant since Feb. 1932. Plaintiff states that the defendant's treatment of her has caused her to become nervous and physically run down to the extent that her health and life are endangered.

C. D. Jory, guardian of the property of John Moes, an incompetent, has brought action against Geo. T. Baadte asking for judgment in sum of $2380 amount alleged due on note.

Stork Express
-A son, Timothy Morrow, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Morrow Sweeney of New Orleans, La., on Monday, Aug. 22.
-Mr. and Mrs. James Triplett are the parents of a daughter born Thursday, August 24. She has been named Janice Lea.

Mrs. Geo. Haye Dies at Royal - Had Been In Ill Health Since 1927 When She Fell and Fractured Her Hip and Back
Mrs. George Haye passed away early Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Peck at Royal. She had been in poor health since she fell at her home here on April 6, 1927, and fractured her hip and back. She had been unable to walk since that time, and for the past four years had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Peck. Previous to that she spend one year with another daughter, Mrs. Earl Shuck.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Lutheran church in Royal with Rev. Kollman in charge. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers: Will and Bernard Shuck, Gerald Haye, Ronald, George and Harold Hicks.

1853 - Tena Haye - 1932
Tena Haye, nee Smidt, was born October 6, 1853, in Germany. In infancy she was brought to her Saviour through the means of holy baptism. At the age of 12 she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and remained a member of the Lutheran church until her death.

At the age of 13 she came with her parents to America and settled at Freeport, Ill. On October 1, 1878, she was married to George Haye. In the year 1887 they came to Iowa and settled near Sutherland, In O'Brien county. To Mr. and Mrs. Haye were born five sons and four daughters. Two of the children preceded their mother in death, George ant the age of two years, and Mrs. E. G. Hicks. Her Husband passed away January 12, 1917. She passed away August 28, 1932, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 22 days. She leaves to mourn her death: 7 children, 34 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Chas. Peck of Royal, Fred Haye of Sutherland, Mrs. Earl Shuck of Royal, Mrs. Peter Zaiser of Clinton, Chas. Haye of Moneta, Claire Haye of Remsen and Claude Haye of Vermilion, S. Dak.

Eleazer B. Stone
Eleazer B. Stone was born in O'Brien county, Iowa, June 16, 1874, and died August 19, 1932, at the age of 58 years, 2 months and 3 days. His life came to an unexpected and sudden end and without warning which is impressive of the certainty of death and the uncertainty of life. Mr. Stone was married to Mrs. Mary J. Carroll at Sutherland, Iowa, on September 13, 26 years ago. Five children were born to this union, two of whom survive. They are Bonnie E. Lyman and Kennedy Stone. The deceased also had two sisters: Mrs. Lelah Cooper and Mrs. Sam Olhausen of Sutherland, who with his widow and children mourn his sudden departure. Mr. Stone had lived in Cherokee 18 years.

Mrs. Kenneth C. Noble received word Tuesday evening of the death of her uncle, Pierce Loving, at Fowler, Colo., which occurred that afternoon. She left for Fowler from Sheldon later that night. The deceased was a brother of her father, W. W. Loving, and the two men had been engaged in the operation of a ranch in Colorado for many years.

Twenty Years Ago - August 30, 1912
-Mrs. J. C. Kruse, mother of Mrs. Fedderson, met with a fatal accident on Monday of this week, but a fall over the side of a stairway, at the home of her brother-in-law, Wm. Ender, at Arcadia, Iowa, while she was visiting there in company with the Fedderson family, with whom she has made her home for some years. She died within three hours.

-A. V. Conway for many years a resident of Grant township, who sold out and removed to Colorado last spring, answered the last roll call on August 19, after many years suffering with lung disease.

-Mrs. F. L. Bidwell died on Saturday afternoon. The funeral services were held at the Bidwell home west of Sutherland Monday at 3 pm and the remains were sent to her early home in New York for burial.

Stanton - Ahrens
Miss Nellie Stanton and Mr. Edmond Ahrens, both of Sutherland, were married last Thursday Sept. 1st, at Flandreau, S. Dak. The ceremony took place at eleven o'clock in the Methodist parsonage. The bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Stanton, were the only witnesses. The bride wore a yellow organdy dress and the groom a brown suit. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Stanton of Sutherland and graduated from the high school in 1931. The groom is a son of Mrs. Ed Ahrens, and has worked around Sutherland for several years.

News of the District Court
Daisy Holmes has brought an action in district court asking for judgment against Chris Urban in the sum of $25,848.50 as damages for pain and suffering, for nursing and medical expenses to be incurred in the future, and loss of time as a housewife, for nervous shock and permanent injury to her spine, which the plaintiff alleges in her petition she sustained as a result of an automobile accident caused by the negligence of the defendant. Plaintiff states in her petition that on February 22, 1932, at 3 o'clock p.m., she was riding in a Chevrolet coupe driven by her husband on Road No. 10 about 2 ½ miles east of Paullina, and that the defendant carelessly and negligently drove his motor truck into the rear of the vehicle in which the plaintiff was riding with great force, throwing the plaintiff forward with such violence that she received severe physical injuries.

-Twin sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Orson Negus on Friday, Sept. 2.
-Mr. and Mrs. Clair Bryant are the parents of a seven and one-half pound daughter born Monday, Sept. 5.

Woman Killed in Auto Wreck Near Sanborn
Mrs. Dewey Holman, 30, was killed at Sanborn Thursday evening when her car was struck by a truck driven by H. Williamson, 56, of Sioux Center. Mrs. Holman was thrown from her car, alighting headforemost on a rock. Williamson was hauling corn from Sanborn to Sioux Center. Mrs. Holman is survived by her husband, a farmer two miles south of Sanborn, and four young children.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haye were in Holstein Friday to attend the funeral of Letlef Lhoff.

Forty-Five Years Ago - September 9, 1887
-Born, Sept. 5, 1887, to Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Price of Sutherland, a son.
-A. F. Horstman packed his grip last Tuesday morning and started for Reinbeck, where he was married yesterday to Miss Hattie Sibert. The happy couple will arrive in Sutherland tomorrow and being housekeeping in the Wm. Horstman house.

Clay Fair Will Open Sept. 20 - Dates are From September 20 to 24; Cleghorn Couple Will Be Married at Public Wedding Saturday
A brilliant and lavish public wedding with a prominent you Cleghorn couple to be married against a background of a spectacular musical revue will climax the Clay County Fair at Spencer on the final night of the exposition, Saturday, September 24th. The dates of the fair this year are September 20th to 24th inclusive, and the greatest show ever staged at Spencer has been arranged.

The bride will be Miss Marjorie Smith and the groom, Mr. Gunnar Osterling. Rev. C. Roll, pastor of the Church of Christ at Cleghorn, will read the ceremony. Fully 10,000 spectators are expected to jam the grandstands and line the fences Saturday night to witness the greatest spectacle that has ever been staged in the fifteen years that the Clay County Fair has been in existence.

Lavish Display
The music for the wedding has been especially written for the occasion and the entire company of Ernie Young's "Passing Parade of 1932," night show at the Fair, will participate in the scene. The bride and groom will be showered with gifts donated by Clay County merchants and the complete wedding outfit is to be provided by different firms. The bride, eighteen years of age, and the groom, twenty-two, both are members of two of Cherokee county's best known families. Following the wedding at Spencer they will honeymoon in Chicago and will return to take up their residence on a farm 10 miles south of Cleghorn, where they will farm 300 acres of land.

Adolph Carstedt
After a lingering illness of three months duration, Adolph Carstedt died at his home in Paullina Monday afternoon at about 3:45 o'clock. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 8, at the First Presbyterian church, with Dr. H. P. Morgan officiating, and interment made in the cemetery at Primghar. The deceased was born in Schleswig, Germany, on December 20, 1874, being 57 years of age. He came to America in the year of 1906 and for several years resided in the Primghar and Sutherland communities, coming to Paullina in 1924. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Freda Carstedt, and one son and three daughters. The children are Bruno of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. C. W. Decker and Mrs. F. Liming of Sioux City, and Mrs. Rhiney Roberts of Sanborn. - The Paullina Times

Eddington - McClain
A small but impressive wedding took place Wednesday, September 14th, when Miss Leora Gladys Eddington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Eddington of 1010 Jackson St., Sioux City, Iowa, became the bride of Mr. Alvin McClain of Steeleville, Mo. The Rev. Arthur Schultz of Merrill, Iowa, officiated. The bride wore a gown of maroon chiffon velvet with accessories to match and carried a bouquet of butterfly roses. She was attended by her sister, Berniece Eddington. Ardell R. Hamren of Sioux City served as best man. After the ceremony a three course wedding breakfast was served at the Maryginia Tea Shop, in the Sioux Apartments. The bride was a graduate of the Primghar high school with the class of 1927 and since then has lived in Sioux City. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McClain of Earlsboro, Okla., but formerly of Sutherland. He graduated from the Sutherland high school in 1926 and is an operator for the Gulf Pipe Line Co. in Steelville, Mo. After a motor trip to St. Louis and other southern points Mr. and Mrs. McClain will be at home in Steelville.

Peter Rehder Passes Away - Pioneer of Calumet Community Dies at Age of 84 Years; Settled in Community in 1885
Peter Rehder, pioneer and long a leading citizen of the Calumet community, passed away at his home there last Thursday, Sept. 8th. Mr. Rehder was past 84 years of age at the time of his death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the German Evangelical church with Rev. Paul Wuebben in charge. Interment was made in Liberty township cemetery. The following grandsons acted as pallbearers: William, Harry, Emil and Roy Rehder, Herman and Roy Hanson.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Rehder and daughter Florine of Brush, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Julius Rehder, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rehder, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Winterfield, all of Hawarden, Geo. Rehder, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Martin, Mrs. Claus Drassen of Gladbrook, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Kammerer of Primghar.

1848 - Peter Rehder - 1932
Peter Rehder was born May 12, 1848 at Hul, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and passed away at his home in Calumet Thursday, Sept. 8, 1932, reaching the age of 84 years, 3 months and 27 days. In his early age he was confirmed in the German Evangelical church and remained in this faith until his death. He was one of the founders of the Calumet church.

Mr. Rehder came to America in 1868 and settled at Davenport, Iowa. The following year he moved to Tama county and on June 30, 1873, he was united in marriage to Anna Kammerer. God blessed their home with four children. One son passed away in infancy. In 1881 his beloved wife also passed away, leaving him alone with three small children. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Wibke Vogt. This union was blessed with one son, John, who passed away in 1929.

In the spring of 1885 Mr. Rehder came to O'Brien county and settled on a farm west of Calumet. In 1895 he retired in Calumet where he passed away, leaving three children to mourn his death; Henry in Calumet, Mary Hanson at Paullina, and Thomas of Brush, Colo., besides 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, as well as a host of friends.

Double Wedding at Siefkin Home - Irma Siefkin and Carl Magnussen; Grace Morgan and Glen Siefkin Are Married At Primghar
A beautiful double wedding was solemnized at eight o'clock Wednesday evening September 14 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Siefkin of Primghar when their daughter Irma became the bride of Carl Magnussen of Larrabee and their son Glenn was married to Grace Morgan of Peterson. "O Promise Me" was played and sung by Mrs. Paul Nitzschke of Remsen, after which the bridal couples entered the room to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march which was also played by Mrs. Nitzschke, and took their places beneath a beautiful arch decorated in the brides' chosen colors of pink and white and decked with garden flowers.

Rev. George Gilbert of Pierson, a brother of Mrs. Henry Siefkin, performed the impressive ring ceremony. Little Elaine Siefkin and Geraldine Anderson, wearing pink dresses, carried the rings in the hearts of pink roses. Miss Siefkin was charming in a gown of white satin and lace trimmed with rhinestones. Miss Morgan was lovely in a gown of white lace. Both brides wore wreaths and carried shower bouquets of old-fashioned flowers. Following the ceremony a delicious two course luncheon was served by Mesdames Nitzschke, Pangborn, and Ennen, and the Misses Gladys and Bernice Gillespie.

Mrs. Magnussen has been a successful rural school teacher of O'Brien county, but for the past two years has been with her brother-in-law operating a grocery store in Primghar. Mr. Magnussen is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Magnussen of Larrabee. The young couple will reside in Larrabee where Mr. Magnussen is engaged in the trucking business.

Mrs. Siefkin is a daughter of Mrs. Morgan of Peterson and is a graduate of the Peterson High School. The young couple will reside near Sutherland where the groom is farming.

Guests at the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Magnussen and son August, of Larrabee, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Teeken [may be Teeker or Tesken?] and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ebert of Sioux City, Katherine Christiansen of Battle Creek, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Bell and daughter Barbara of Aurelia, Mrs. Percy Joines and son Lorn of Peterson, Rev. Geo. Gilbert of Pierson, Mrs. Earl Joines and son Lloyd, Mr. and Mrs. Kembel Joines and little Mary Ann of Gaza, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gillespie and children, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Irvine, Mrs. Ennen, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Pangborn, all of Primghar and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nitzschke of Remsen. After the luncheon the young couples departed amid showers of rice, on extended wedding trips. Mr. and Mrs. Siefkin expect to visit at Sidney, Iowa with the latter's mother, who was unable to be present.

Mrs. Andrew Carlson Dies In California
Word has been received here from Ed Carlson of Berkeley, Calif., telling of the death of his mother, Mrs. Andrew Carlson, in that city September 11th. Mrs. Carlson, a former Sutherland resident, came here from Sweden when a girl and was married to Andrew Carlson. They resided on a farm two miles northwest of town for many years. For the past 15 years Mrs. Carlson has been living at Berkeley, Calif. Five children remain to mourn her death: Mrs. O. C. Jones of Berkeley; Mrs. J. B. Ackley of Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. C. O. Buchanan of Wailuku, Hawaii; Mrs. J. Storholt of San Rafael, Calif.; and Edw. Carlson of Berkeley. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. J. Anderson of Omaha, Nebr.; a brother, J. T. Johnson of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and seven grandchildren.

Scott - Bemis
Ralph Scott, a son of LeRoy Scott at Calumet, was married on Monday September 12th to Miss Blanche Bemis of Drakesville, Iowa, at the home of the bride's parents. The groom was graduated from the Calumet school and took up a course in Electrical Engineering at Ames for nearly two years. He is a grandson of Mrs. L. Hostler of Sutherland.

Mrs. Farquhar Passes Away - Never Recovered from Fall Suffered in January, 1930; Burial Services Saturday
Mrs. Margaret Farquhar, 64 years of age, passed away last Wednesday evening, September 14th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dale Youde four miles southwest of Royal. Mrs. Farquhar had been in failing health for over a year and a half, the result of a fall suffered at her home in Sutherland in January 1930. Since the injury she had been living with her daughters Mrs. Youde and Mrs. Severt Harris.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Sutherland last Saturday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. Corwin Taylor, in charge. Burial was in Waterman cemetery. Mrs. Frank Bruner and Herman Behmer, accompanied by Miss Frances Bruner at the piano, furnished the music.

1867 - Mrs. Margaret Farquhar - 1932
Margaret Ann Spensley was born November 3, 1867, at New Liggins [sic, New Diggings], Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Hanna [sic, Hannah] Spensley. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dale Youde, near Royal on September 14, 1932, at the age of 64 years.

In 1886 she was united in marriage to Thomas Eustice, to which union two children were born, Mrs. Gena Youde of Royal and a daughter who died in infancy. After the death of her husband Mrs. Eustice was married to Alexander Farquhar at Dubuque, Iowa. They moved at once to O'Brien county and established their home in Grant township, where they resided until the death of Mr. Farquhar in 1918. Six children were born to them, one of whom died in infancy, and Mrs. Lottie Weaver, deceased February 9, 1918.

Mrs. Farquhar was one of eight daughters and she was the mother of eight daughters. Those who are living are: Mrs. Dale Youde of Royal; Mrs. S. M. [sic, B. M.] Clarksean of Lime Springs; Mrs. Severt Harris of Peterson and Mrs. Claude Weaver and Celeste Farquhar of Sutherland.

After the death of Mr. Farquhar in 1918 Mrs. Farquhar moved to Sutherland, where she made her home until January 190, when following a fall from which she never fully recovered, she made her home with her two daughters, Mrs. Dale Youde and Mrs. Severt Harris. During more than a year and eight months she was a constant sufferer, and at last after all had been done that loving hands could do her spirit took its leave of the earthly house. In her girlhood home in Wisconsin she gave her heart to God and united with the Methodist church. While living in Sutherland she was for some time an active member of the Ladies Aid of the church.

Besides her children and grandchildren Mrs. Farquhar leaves to mourn her passing four sisters: Mrs. Ray Pellitier of Glendale, Calif.; Mrs. Linnie Callahan of Waseca, Minn.; Mrs. Olive Hicks of Scales Mound, Ill.; and Mrs. Joenes [sic?] Symons of East St. Louis, Ill.

-Twin daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jurgensen of Calumet last Tuesday, September 18th.
-A seven pound daughter was born Friday, September 16 to Mr. and Mrs. John E. Perkins, of Lynn, Mass. Mrs. Perkins will be remembered as Miss Ilo Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Green.
-Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Strampe are the parents of a son, born last Wednesday evening, September 14. He weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounces and they have named him Rodney Ray.

Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bidwell left Tuesday morning for Granger, Minn. to attend the funeral of Mrs. Bidwell's brother-in-law. They expect to return the last of the week.

Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Lynn and Maxine went to York, Nebr., Saturday to attend the funeral of an aunt. They returned home Monday.

Infant Daughter Passes Away
Lola, the infant twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hartwig Jurgensen was born September 13, 1932, and passed away September 15, 1932. From loving parents she was taken to him who said, "Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven." This little child just appeared on the scene for just a few days and then vanished from sight, prepared someday to welcome her loved ones to the home above. All that is left to comfort her sorrowing parents and brother and sister is the assurance that she is eternally safe on the other side of the veil that is between them. Short funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home with Rev. Paul Wuebben in charge. Interment was made at the Liberty cemetery.

-The many old friends and neighbors of Andrew Carlson were pained to hear of his untimely and unexpected death at his new home in Cherokee last week.

-Born, Sept. 20, 1887, to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gable, of Waterman township, a son.

Hagenbucher - Stover
Miss Edna Hagenbucher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hagenbucher, and Mr. Floyd Stover, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Stover, were married at South Sioux City, Nebraska Wednesday, September 21 by Reverend Corlyn of that city. Edna is a graduate of the Primghar high school, class of 1927, and has taught four years in the rural schools. The groom graduated with the class of 1924 from the Sutherland high school. Two years later he went to Chicago where he has been employed the past six years with the Reliable Packing Company. The couple will make their home in Chicago. Six o'clock dinner was served to the bridal party and relatives at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. John Meyer Jr.

Robert J. Moorhead Dies Very Suddenly
Paullina Times: Robert J. Moorhead, well known in this section of O'Brien county, died suddenly Tuesday morning at about six o'clock at Edgely, N. D. The cause of his death was heart trouble. He had left for North Dakota some three or four weeks ago where he was employed at threshing. He had reached the age of some fifty years, but had never married. When in this community he made his home with his sister Mrs. Jennie Conn at Primghar. Mr. Moorhead was a member of the local Masonic Lodge and is well known here. The funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Community church at Gaza, with Rev. [...missing] ment will be made in the Prairie View cemetery here. An obituary will be printed next week. Mr. Moorhead was a former resident of Sutherland and owned an elevator here.

-Mr. and Mrs. John Drake are the parents of a baby boy born Tuesday, September 27, at the Sioux Valley hospital. He weighed eight pounds.
-A nine and one-quarter pound son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cain last Thursday, September 22. He has been named Raymond James.

Jack Dunn Dies in California
Word has been received here of the death of Jack Dunn at his home in Long Beach, Calif. last week. Funeral services were held Monday. Mr. Dunn was a former resident of Sutherland. Mrs. Dunn was formerly Ethel Chesley, a daughter of Mrs. Edna Chesley.

-Mrs. F. A. Fogelman and son Lyle attended the funeral of Mrs. M. P. Arrasmith at Cherokee Wednesday.

Twenty Years Ago - September 27, 1912
-On Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. Amendt, at Peterson, occurred the marriage of Miss Lydia Amendt to Mr. William Brausch.
