-Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Flinders, of San Antonio, Texas, are rejoicing over the arrival of a son, born Saturday, April 30th. He has been named Arthur Challand.
-A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Butler of Fergus Falls, Minn. on Tuesday, May 3rd.
-Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mitchell, of Spencer, are the parents of a daughter, Joan Mae, born April 23.

Court News
-The final report of The First National Bank of Paullina, executor of the estate of Henry Pauling Sr., deceased, has been approved by the court and the executor discharged and the estate matter closed.

-The final report of Anna Andersen, executrix of the estate of Max Andersen, deceased, has been approved by the court and the executrix discharged.

-The estates of Fred G. Miller and Henry Muhs have been decreed by the Court, exempt from the payment of an inheritance tax.

Bradley Crary Found Dead in Bed Sunday at Home Near Larrabee
Bradley Crary, well known in Sutherland and who lived on a farm a short distance east of Larrabee, was found dead in bed Sunday morning, May 1st, by his wife when she awoke. Mrs. Crary had no knowledge of his approaching death and apparently the end came very quietly. Mr. Crary had not been ill, although he had been taking treatments for his heart occasionally. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Larrabee and burial made in Cedar township cemetery Tuesday. The deceased is survived by his wife and one son, Corwin. Among those from Sutherland who attended the funeral of Bradley Crary at Larrabee Tuesday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Gilbert, Lawrence and Margaret, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bruner and Frances, Mr. and Mrs. R Clifton, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gilbert, Mrs. Hattie Warren, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hughes and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hughes.

Mrs. Will Brosh Dies at Pipestone
From our Grant-Highland correspondent - Friends in our neighborhood were grieved to hear of the death of Mrs. Will Brosh which occurred at a hospital at Pipestone, Minn. Sunday. Mrs. Brosh was a sister of Rudolph and Robert Lemke and had lived the most of her life in our community. The family moved to Woodstock, Minn. two years ago. Mrs. Brosh had been a great sufferer for many years from rheumatism and several weeks ago had the flu which settled in the iph [sic?] crippled by rheumatism. She was patient in all her suffering, doing and thinking always of her family. She leaves to mourn her death her husband and three children, Lois, Wilbur and Lucile and two grandchildren. Three brothers, Rudolph, Robert and Will Lemke and one sister, Mrs. Will Eddington of Sioux City, also survive her. Sympathy is extended to the sorrowing family.

Farmer of Liberty Township Hangs Self
John H. Runge Sr., Liberty township farmer living between Calumet and Paullina, committed suicide Tuesday morning about 9 o'clock while the family was in the basement preparing to do the washing. He used a piece of clothesline thrown over the bathroom door. Ill health is believed to have been the cause of the act. Mr. Runge was 70 years old and had been a sufferer from diabetes. He is survived by his wife and several children.

A number from this vicinity attended the funeral of Mrs. Christensen at Royal Sunday afternoon.

Forty-Five Years Ago - Items taken from the files of The Sutherland Courier - May 6, 1887
-Married, in Sheldon, Tuesday, May 3, 1887, by Father Sullivan, Mr. Geo. Thompson and Miss Sarah Maher, both of Waterman township.
-Mr. George Snyder, of Grant township, was kicked by a horse last Sunday morning and received injuries which caused his death.

Court News
-The court decreed the estate of Samuel Wood exempt from the payment of an inheritance tax.

-George Swain, administrator of the estate of Louis Reimers, deceased, was granted permission of the court to compromise and settle the claim of the estate of Louis Reimers, against Robert Cowling, for the sum of $2,000,000. [sic?] This claim is the outcome of a suit which George Swain, as administrator, started against Robert Cowling of Sioux City, on account of an automobile accident about two miles east of Primghar last August, in which Louis Reimers lost his life.

-Earle Miner, executor of the estate of Beca Miner, deceased, was granted permission by the court to sell certain real estate in Sheldon, belonging to the estate in order to pay certain debts against said estate.

Mrs. Wm. Forgie Dies on Tuesday - Sister of Andrew Hilbert Passes Away at Sioux Center; Funeral Friday
Mrs. Wm. Forgie, sister of Andrew Hilbert and for a number of years a resident of Sutherland, passed away at Sioux Center Tuesday morning, May 10th. She had suffered from cancer. Mrs. Forgie is survived by her husband and three children. Funeral services will be held at Sioux Center Friday afternoon.

Mrs. Adah Heckert and son, Clare, went to Worthington, Minn. this morning to attend the funeral of Ross Camery. Mr. Camery, who is a cousin of the Camery's at Sutherland, died Monday as the result of injuries received when the truck he was driving for the Boote Hatchery overturned. Mrs. Heckert is an aunt of Mrs. Camery.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wede are the parents of an eight and one-half pound daughter, born Monday, May 9th.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jungjohann and Mrs. Henry Hass went to Reinbeck Wednesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Hass' aunt. They returned Friday.

Mrs. W. C. Bryant received the sad new of the death of her sister, Mrs. Ora Yeager, who passed away at a hospital in Montevideo, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Will Bryant left Monday morning to attend the funeral services which were held at Renville, Minn. Wednesday afternoon.

-The estate of Adolph Christensen was decreed by the Court exempt from the payment of an inheritance tax.

-A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hantsbarger on May 3rd. She has been named Lois Maybelle. This is the first daughter in the family.
-Mr. and Mrs. Donald Blair are the parents of a daughter born Monday, May 16th. She weighed six pounds, and has been named Barbara Bayne.

Marriages

Waters - Wohlert
Announcements have been received here of the marriage of Mattie Waters of Hayward, Wisconsin to Rudolph H. Wohlert of this place on Wednesday, May 11, 1932. The ceremony was performed at the Congregational parsonage at Elk Point, South Dakota. Mr. Wohlert has lived in Grant township for many years, he and his brother, Ernest and family making their home together. Mr. and Mrs. Wohlert will make their home at Hayward, Wisconsin. The good wishes of their friends follow them.

Jalas - Wohlert
Miss Velma Jalas was united in marriage to Arnold Wohlert at Canton, S. Dak. on April 5th. Miss Jalas is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Jalas. Mr. Wohlert is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wohlert. Both the families were present at the ceremony.

Obituary of Mrs. Ory Yeager
Ruth Minard Yeager was born June 8, 1894, at Rock Valley, Iowa where her girlhood was spent and she was graduated from the High School with the class of 1912. For seven years she was a successful rural teacher, teaching in Sioux and O'Brien counties. While in O'Brien she taught No. 2., 3, and 4 in Grant township.

On May 1, 1918, she was married to Ory Yeager of Sutherland. After farming in Iowa for three years they moved to Sacred Heart, Minn. where they continued to make their home. Three daughters came to bless the home, Elinor, 6 years old, Lois 3 years old, and a tiny baby only a few hours old when the mother passed away at the Montevideo Hospital at Montevideo, Minn. on May 8, 1932. She was 37 years, 11 months of age.

Funeral services were held at Renville, Minn. on May 11 and burial was made in the Renville cemetery. Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Tierney of Jeffers, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bryant of Hartley, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Miller of State Center, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. John Yeager and Jed Yeager of Primghar, Ia.

Storm Lake Truck Driver Killed
A. C. Nelson, a Storm Lake truck driver, was crushed to death Monday afternoon when the truck he was riding overturned in a ditch three miles north of Cherokee. Nelson's brother-in-law, riding wit him, said that an approaching truck crowded him off the road. Nelson was unmarried.

-A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clark Heckert, of Newton, on Saturday, May 21st.

Henry Ruwe, younger brother of Dr. George Ruwe, former Sutherland dentist who passed away three years ago, died at Monrovia, California on Monday, May 9th. Funeral services and burial were at Glendale. The deceased was born on a farm south of Everly. He had been ill with tuberculosis for several years and bedfast for a long period.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Troxel motored to Laurens Sunday to see Mr. Troxel's parents who were ill. Mr. Troxel Sr. passed away that afternoon. He was 92 years of age and a Civil War veteran. Mrs. Troxel remained to be with the family a few days.

Mr. Will Troxel, Eugene and Robert and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Troxel and Billy went to Laurens Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mr. Troxel's father.

Dr. George Donohoe Was Buried Monday
Funeral services for Dr. George Donohoe, superintendent of the Cherokee state hospital, were conducted Monday morning at Immaculate Conception church. Fr. Smith was assisted in the services by Fr. Masterson of Boone, Fr. O'Brine of Humboldt, Fr. Nuel of Manson, and Fr. Hyland. Fr. Masterson delivered the sermon. - Cherokee Chief

Twenty Years Ago - Items taken from the files of The Sutherland Courier - May 23, 1912
-Herman Johannsen and Miss Ella Lahann, of Sutherland, "slipped one over" on their friends last Thursday by going to Cherokee, where they were quietly married. They then left for a visit with relatives at Belmont, Wis. and Gladbrook, Iowa.
