Methodist Church; Deceased Had Lived Here Since 1894
Mrs. Gus Bandholz passed away at her home Sunday afternoon about
four o'clock after a serious illness of two weeks. For several
years Mrs. Bandholz was a sufferer from diabetes and the closing
years of her life were spent in poor health. Funeral services
were held yesterday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev.
Corwin Taylor in charge. The music was furnished by Mrs. Frank
Bruner and Herman Behmer, with Miss Frances Bruner accompanying.
The pallbearers were John Meyer Sr., Peter Peterson, Gus Schwein,
Fedder Fedderson, Julius Jones and Wm. Timmerman.
1868 - Mrs. Gustav Bandholz - 1932
Ida Marie Schraeder was born at Davenport, Scott county, Iowa, on
February 3, 1868, and passed away in Sutherland January 31, 1932,
lacking three days of being 64 years of age at the time of her
death. On July 27, 1869, she was baptized in the Evangelical
Lutheran faith at Davenport, where she lived on a farm with the
parents and attended the public schools of the city. In 1883 she
was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church.
She was united in marriage to Gustav Bandholz February 23, 1888,
and to this union three children were born, two sons and a
daughter. Charles preceded his mother in death January 11, 1919,
and Rudolph died in infancy. The daughter, Mrs. W. J. Wagner of
Sutherland and the husband survive the deceased. Mrs. and Mrs.
Bandholz lived on a farm near Davenport until 1894, when they
came to O'Brien county and lived on a farm near Sutherland until
1913. At that time they moved to town and have since resided
here.
Mrs. Bandholz passed away January 31, 1932, and was laid to rest
in Waterman cemetery on what would have been her 64th birthday.
She had one sister and one brother, both of whom have preceded
her in death. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her
departure her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Wagner
and four grandchildren.

Man Splinters Leg in Ski Fall - W. J.
Goering of Hartley Suffers Severe Fracture While With Skiing
Party Sunday
W. H. Goering, Hartley barber, aged 24 and single, was severely
injured Sunday afternoon while on a skiing party northeast of
Sutherland. He received a multiple, spiral fracture of the right
femur, upper and lower. Immediately after the accident Mr.
Goering was brought to Sutherland where the injured leg was
treated by Dr. T. D. Kas.
The splintered bone in the right leg of the injured man is
regarded as a serious case, because of the extreme difficulty in
setting a break of this kind, which is characteristic of almost
all fractures cased by skiing. In falling on skis the most common
thing to happen is to have the leg twist, and the strain on the
bone is much the same as when a person takes either end of a
cloth in his hands and twists it. There is not only a fracture,
but also much splintering of the bone. It is this splintering
that makes such a break more serious. The accident happened about
4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon while Mr. Goering and a party of
friends from Hartley were skiing on the hills of the Waterman
northeast of town.
Local Man Sued in Auto Crash - Charles Kramer of Remsen
Seeks $35,000 from Everett Olhausen and John Vaske
Charles Kramer has brought an action against Everett Olhausen,
John Vaske and Cletus Vaske, asking for judgment in the sum of
$35,000.00 as a result of injuries sustained by the plaintiff
while riding as guest in a Chevrolet car owned by John Vaske and
driven by his son Cletus Vaske. Plaintiff alleges in his petition
that while proceeding west on the graveled highway known as
Primary No. 5, with the defendant Cletus Vaske, they crashed in
to the rear of an International truck, which was parked on the
highway, without lights and which truck was owned by Everett
Olhausen. Plaintiff further alleges that the driver of the
Chevrolet car failed to have car within his control; that he did
not keep a proper lookout to avoid accident; that the car was
driven at an excessive and reckless rate of speed and that the
defendant, Everett Olhausen was negligent in permitting his truck
to be parked upon the highway in the lane of traffic, unguarded
without proper lights. Plaintiff asks for $5000.00 for past pain
and suffering, $5000.00 for future pain and suffering, $7,500.00
for facial disfigurement, $15,000.00 for injury to his head and
brain, $500 for doctor and hospital bills and $2,000 for injury
to his jaw.
