Geo. W. Harges was granted a license Tuesday to wed Amanda Helman. Mr. Harges is a prominent young farmer of Summit township.

Roy Brigham the twenty-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Brigham, of Dale township, died last Monday night at his home in that township, of appendicitis. He had been sick only a brief time and his death comes as a great surprise to his many friends. The funeral will probably be held Wednesday.

Mrs. G. W. Bowers, whom the Courier reported last week as being very sick at Hedrick, Iowa, died last Friday and was buried Sunday at Hedrick. Mrs. B. F. Shirk, who is a sister of the deceased, and who was called to Hedrick last week, returned home Tuesday.

Fred Houghtaling, a well known Sioux City traveling man, committed suicide by shooting Tuesday at his home in that city.

John Greggerson and wife and two children arrived Saturday morning from Schleswig, Germany, and have taken up their residence in the rooms over G. K. Schultz' feed store. For the present Mr. Greggerson is employed on the Sutherland section.

Marriage licenses have been issued to Otto Siemsglush and Emma Ebert; Emil H. Wittrock and Annis Bowley; Sam'l G. Welton and Ida M. Kellum; R. B. Knuth and Annie Meyer.

Messrs. Hogan and Sullivan were here from Cherokee the first of the week investigating the condition of their relative, Dennis Harrington, who has become mentally deranged. The insane commission considered his case Monday and made an order adjudging him insane and he was placed in the custody of his brother, Con Harrington, who will have him cared for in a private institution at Dubuque.

Albertus Tatro wants a divorce from her husband Benj. E. Tatro on grounds of cruel and inhuman treatment.

Hector Cowan, Sr., an old and highly respected citizen of Dale township, died at his home last Thursday.

Frank Stouffer, of the Sac Sun, was married on Wednesday of last week to Miss Fannie Elizabeth Stearns. The Courier extends congratulations.

Harry Thompson, the man who shot John Bunn, of Washta, several months ago, plead guilty, in district court last week, to the charge of assault with intent to commit murder, and was sentenced to eight years in the penitentiary.

Marriage licenses have been issued to Ernest E. Brunk and Sadie M. Schultz; Alfred Warnke and Bertha Dobbertin.

John Archer was called to Clinton, Iowa, Monday by news of the sudden illness of his brother who suffered a stroke of paralysis. The brother is Thomas Archer and is well known here.

H. E. Reeves of Heron Lake but for many years a resident of Primghar died Sunday in a hospital in Sioux City. He has been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach and been in the Sioux City hospital for several months. He was upwards of seventy years of age and leaves a widow and four children, as follows: Mrs. Geo. R. Slocum of St. Paul, Fred Reeves of Sioux City, Chas. Reeves and Lewis Reeves of Heron Lake, Minn. Mr. Reeves was the contractor who built the school building in Primghar and still owned quite a good deal of residence property here when he died. The funeral was held in Sioux City Tuesday and was attended by C. H. Slocum and C. H. Winterble of this place who acted as pall bearers.

Wittrock - Bowley
On Saturday, September 24th, at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thies Wittrock of Grant township, occurred the marriage of Emil Wittrock to Miss Annie Bowley of Andover, S. D. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Conrad of Calumet in the presence of a number of relatives and friends of the contracting parties. The groom is a well known and highly respected young farmer. The bride is not so well known, having recently come here from South Dakota. The guests from abroad were Henry Bowley, of Omaha, brother of the bride, Herman Wittrock of Omaha, and Mr. and Mrs. Thies Wittrock of Canistota, S. D. The young couple will make their home on the farm of the groom's parents, who expect to move to Sutherland in a short time.
