Lake Park News: A reunion of the Shepard family, nearly
all of whom were former residents of O'Brien county, was held at
the home of Mrs. Mary Shepard Powers, Sioux Valley, Minn., on
Oct. 9th. Nearly all of the survivors were present and enjoyed a
banquet richly seasoned with witty stories and recollections of
bygone days. Among those present were Mrs. P. R. Fisher and
daughters of Alamosa, Col.; Mr. and Mrs. Farnsworth, Wenatchee,
Wash.; Mrs. M. E. Tollaksen, Port Townsend, Wash.; Wm. Shepard,
Longmont, Col.; Eugene Shepard, Willard, Kans.; James Shepard,
Rapid City, S.D.; Mrs. R. E. Shepard, son and daughter; Mrs. Alta
Seeman, Detroit, Mich. and H. Blood, wife and mother, Glenville,
Minn.

Obituary
Mrs. F. Lemke of Grant township died at her home on Monday of
last week. Funeral services were at the Grant township church
last Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Lewis officiating, assisted by Rev.
Briggs, of Gaza, interment being made in the Grant cemetery. The
following obituary is taken from the Primghar Bell, as
the Courier was unable to get the particulars last week.
Freda Westfall was born in Germany May 3, 1848. In 1868 she came
to Bloomington, Ill., where she was married to Frederick Lemke.
They moved to Buena Vista county, Iowa, in 1874, remaining there
until 1881, when they moved to O'Brien county. She united with
the Congregational church Jan. 4, 1892, in which she was a
faithful worker. Her husband died Oct. 10, 1891. Eight children
blessed their union, three of whom are dead. Those who survive
her are Rudolph, Mrs. W. T. Eddington, and Willie. She departed
this life at home in Grant township, Oct. 10, 1904, at the age of
56 years, 5 months and 7 days.

G. W. Harris was appointed guardian of the person and property of
Lavina Adkins, a person of unsound mind and he was authorized to
sell her real estate.
Cornelius Harrington was appointed guardian for his brother,
Dennis Harrington, an insane person.

Arthur Richardson and wife of Shambuagh, Iowa, came Monday night
to be present at the funeral of Mrs. Richardson's mother, Mrs.
Bidwell. Mr. Richardson is the son of H. A. Richardson.

Obituary
Mrs. Minerva Bidwell died of apoplexy at her home in Liberty
township on Sunday, October 23rd. Mrs. Bidwell was stricken with
the disease which caused her death on the Friday previous and was
alone in the house at the time. She was unconscious most of the
time until she passed away.
Minerva A. Barton was born in Chautauqua county, New York, July
19, 1831. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Bidwell February
18, 1848. They resided in Chautauqua county a few years and then
moved west to Houston county, Minn., where they lived until they
moved to O'Brien county ten years ago. The husband died six years
ago. Seven children were born to them, but three of whom are
still living, as follows: Guy Bidwell, who has always resided
with his mother; Effie M. Swendseid of Petersburg, N. D., and
Mrs. Elma E. Richardson of Shambaugh, Iowa. The funeral was held
Tuesday in t he Methodist church at Calumet and was conducted by
Rev. Magee of Paullina, assisted by the Women's Relief Corps of
Sutherland, of which order deceased was a member. The remains
were laid to rest in the Waterman cemetery.
