The following parties have been granted divorces: Ida Marcussen
from Fred C. Marcussen; Paulline Havens from Geo. L. Havens;
Grace Colcord Coffin from Jesse S. Coffin. The latter divorce was
recured [sic] on the testimony of plaintiff and her mother. No
defense was interposed. The testimony showed neglect, lack of
affection, lack of support. The defendant is a minister, lecturer
and dramatic reader, and his wife's testimony showed that he
never held any family worship and failed to live at home as from
the pulpit he advised others to do. Mrs. Coffin was granted costs
of suit and attorney fees in prosecuting the suit. In Altha Youde
vs. Samuel Youde the curt overruled defendant's motion for more
specific statement.
Sheriff Price went to Anamosa Tuesday with James Cary, who was
sentenced to six months at hard labor for assisting prisoners to
escape, and George Johnson who gets fourteen months for a
murderous assault on the marshal at Hartley. John Willard who
plead guilty of petty larceny was sent to Eldora to the state
industrial school it being shown that he was fourteen years of
age.
