Bad Accident
Cherokee Times-Herald: At half past five tonight
occurred a very sad accident. Little Georgia Heymer was returning
from the Sunday school picnic at the fountain house grounds and
at the crossing on Willow street was run over by the switch
engine. Her hand was crushed and mangled and it will be
impossible to save it. Her face is badly bruised and she seems
otherwise, hurt, how badly we cannot say at the time of going to
press. She was taken to the Hornibrook office where her wounds
are being dressed.
Sioux City Herald: Miss Lizzie Schalekamp received a
severe fright one week ago Saturday and in consequence has since
been suffering greatly from a nervous affliction. Her parents and
the physicians concluded that better treatment could be given her
at the hospital and Miss Lizzie was taken there Monday. It is
expected that a few weeks will only be necessary for her
restoration to perfect health. In company with two other young
ladies and an escort Miss Schalekamp was returning from the train
at Alton about 9 p.m., when three young men jumped from the side
of the road and climbed into the carriage. Their intentions may
have been only to frighten, but the serious result can only
arouse the strongest condemnation of such deeds - infinite
foolishness or infinite rascality. It may be said that public
opinion will demand the severest punishment of any such offenders
and if the laws are not sufficient some other way will be found.

Voss - Taylor
We believe that all the people in this community will be pleased
to learn that John F. Voss and Mrs. Retta Taylor were married
Thursday evening. John is a steady, jolly, thoroughly good fellow
who makes friends as fast as he gets acquainted. He is manager of
the Western Elevator Co. at this place. His bride is a young
woman of fine character and who is entirely worthy of her
husband. The marriage took place at the Methodist parsonage in
the presence of only a few friends. The pair have gone to
housekeeping in the house in the west part of town where Mrs.
Voss has been living. Both bride and groom have lived for years
in Sutherland and the Courier wishes the happy couple long life
and happiness.
