The McGregor road has nine months, three weeks and two days to
come seventy-five miles.
Emmet F. Hill, Esq., a large land owner in Osceola and Dickens
counties, reached northwestern Iowa from Denver, Colorado this
week. He thinks of doubling on the price of his land, which he
has been offering at $2.50 per acre.
The Potter Brothers claim that honor of taking the first claims
in Floyd Township. Their papers bear date of October 24, 1870.
Mr. Potter, their father, reached here May 17, '71 and the 19th
the railroad was surveyed through his claim.
There is a debate in the Lingenfelter district every Friday. Mr.
Myron Damon is president, Mr. Peter, secretary and Mr. L.S. Stone
treasurer. Next Friday evening the question for debate is:
"Resolve that man is influenced more by men than by
money."
